About the Opportunity
Join NT PHN in a meaningful leadership role focused on supporting the development of the First Nations workforce across the Northern Territory primary health care sector.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Lead will work in partnership with key internal and external stakeholders to lead and advise on programs that improve local health career pathways for First Nations people, support culturally safe health care, strengthen access to health workforce for remote Aboriginal communities and improve the sustainability of First Nations health workforce models into the future.

This position isdesignatedas Indigenous Identified and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act **** (Cth) and section 57(1) of the Anti-Discrimination Act **** (NT).
Under section 35(1)(b) of the Anti-Discrimination Act **** (NT), it is a genuine occupational requirement that the incumbent be an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
About You
You are a culturally responsive workforce development professional with experience supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce initiatives, training and education pathways, career pathways,recruitmentand retention.
You bring strong stakeholder engagement skills, sound project leadershipcapabilityand the ability to work respectfully across diverse cultural contexts.
Knowledge or training equivalent to a relevant degree and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training.
Demonstrated experience developing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce initiatives, including training and educational pathways, career pathways and recruitment or retention strategies.
Demonstrated internal and external stakeholder engagement skills, including successful client relationship management.
Highly developed interpersonal, communication and networking skills,



including the ability to deliver effective online and face-to-face presentations.
Ability to provide regional insights and strategic advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, education and training matters, informed by community engagement and co-design.
Excellent time-management and organisational skills, with the ability to lead projects, programs and initiatives using project management principles and methodology.
About the Role
This role contributes to workforce development across the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health branch, working collaboratively with communities, health services, internal teams and external partners to support culturally safe and sustainable health workforce outcomes.
Key priorities include:
Developing and maintaining an in-depth, contemporary understanding of the challenges and opportunities affecting the First Nations primary health care remote workforce in the Northern Territory.
Partnering with stakeholders to design and deliver programs and initiatives that improve supported pathways into and through careers in health for First Nations people.
Supporting NT PHN's clinical education team to source and deliver training programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce in all regions of the Northern Territory.
Supporting NT PHN's broader health workforce team to recruit, train and retain a culturally competent primary health care workforce, including providing cultural advice and guidance to strengthen program delivery.
Representing NT PHN's workforce branch at key stakeholder forums and meetings.
Leading advocacy to support health workforce reform in the Northern Territory.




Contributing to NT PHN's Reconciliation Action Plan, Cultural Respect Framework and Strategic Plan deliverables.
Providing cultural insights and mentoring support to internal staff to support professional development and strengthen cultural competence within NT PHN.
