The Opportunity
As a
Welfare Assistant
with our Marine Animal Team, you'll play an important role in maintaining the highest standards of care and cleanliness across our animal exhibits.
You'll help keep our exhibits sparkling clean, prepare enrichment items that keep our animals curious and content, and ensure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly.
While you won't be handling the animals directly, your work helps create a secure and vibrant home for them, and an unforgettable experience for every guest who visits!
Key Responsibilities
Conducting daily cleaning and sanitation of animal areas, food preparation spaces, and equipment in line with strict hygiene standards.
Assisting with exhibit upkeep, including landscaping, pool care, and general maintenance to ensure pristine presentation.
Preparing and delivering approved enrichment items that promote curiosity and wellbeing among our animals.
Maintaining accurate records of cleaning, maintenance, and enrichment activities.
Adhering to workplace health and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for animals, team members, and guests.
Supporting the Marine Animal Specialist Team with operational and behind-the-scenes tasks.
Candidates who progress through the first and second round interviews will be required to complete both
(a) a Fitness for Work Assessment and
(b) a Psychometric Assessment (DISC).
These assessments are conducted at VRTP's expense and form part of the overall recruitment process.

What We're Looking For
Blue Card is essential* (Please be advised that the cost of a Blue Card is currently $******).
A current Queensland C Class driver's licence.
A keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining immaculate standards.
A genuine passion for marine life and animal welfare.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
A proactive attitude and the ability to take direction in a fast-paced, outdoor environment.
High physical fitness and the ability to work in varying weather conditions.
Flexibility to work early mornings, late finishes, weekends, and public holidays as required.
*The Queensland Government has increased enforcement of the Blue Card (Working with Children) No Card, No Start legislation.
This position requires a Blue Card, as the role may include working with children.
