Aboriginal Liaison Officer

As an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners throughout their time in custody and their transition back into the community.

Key Responsibilities
Supporting culturally appropriate interventions and wellbeing programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander prisoners.
Facilitating connections with Elders, community organisations and culturally significant programs.
Advocating for prisoners' cultural, welfare and reintegration needs.
Developing strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Providing guidance on cultural practices and supporting culturally safe service delivery.
Investigating and reporting incidents while promoting respect, inclusion and fairness across the facility.

Qualifications and Experience
Experience working in a welfare, community services, justice, human services or similar environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting or advocating for people with complex needs.
Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures,



communities and contemporary issues.
The ability to remain calm, resilient and professional in challenging environments.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and positive relationships.
A team-oriented approach and commitment to working as part of a supportive team.
