Role Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for leading day‐to‐day production operations within a regulated food manufacturing environment.
This role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient execution of the production plan while maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and operational discipline.
The Production Manager plays a key role in delivering daily output, developing teams, and driving continuous improvement on the factory floor.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Operations
Lead and manage daily production activities to ensure delivery against production schedules, volume targets, and customer demand
Execute production plans efficiently by ensuring materials, labour, and equipment are available and prepared ahead of schedule
Drive performance across Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery (SQCD) metrics
Monitor line performance and address issues impacting throughput, downtime, or waste in real time
Ensure correct material flow, line clearance, and product status control throughout all stages of production
Work closely with Maintenance to coordinate planned maintenance activities and minimise unplanned downtime
Compliance & Quality




Ensure full compliance with the Food Safety Program (HACCP), GMP requirements, and internal quality systems
Maintain high standards of production documentation including batch records, pre‐ and post‐operational checks, line checks, and CCP monitoring
Identify, escalate, and support investigation of deviations, non‐conformances, and food safety risks
Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and preparation for customer, certification, and regulatory audits
Partner with QA to ensure timely batch release and effective issue resolution
People Leadership
Lead, coach, and motivate production teams across shifts to deliver safe, consistent, and high‐quality output
Set clear expectations around roles, responsibilities, and decision‐making at line and shift level
Drive a strong culture of food safety, GMP discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement
Identify training needs and ensure operators are competent, authorised, and cross‐trained where required
Support workforce planning, rostering, attendance management, and performance reviews
Safety & Workplace Standards
Lead by example in adherence to WHS policies, procedures, and safe work practices
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, and GMP compliance across all production areas
Ensure safe operation and handling of equipment, raw materials, allergens, and cleaning chemicals




Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with QA, Warehouse, Maintenance, Procurement, and Planning to ensure smooth production execution
Support new product introductions, trials, and production changeovers
Proactively communicate production risks, delays, and constraints to the leadership team
Reporting & Performance Management
Track and report daily and weekly production performance, including output, downtime, waste, and labour efficiency
Review schedule adherence and implement corrective actions to address gaps
Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve yield, productivity, and cost performance
Capabilities, Experience & Qualifications
Essential Experience
3–7 years' experience in a production or manufacturing leadership role within a food manufacturing workplace
Proven experience managing teams in a HACCP and GMP‐controlled facility
Strong understanding of food safety principles, allergen management, and quality systems
Track record of meeting production targets while maintaining safety and quality standards
Skills & Capabilities
Hands‐on leadership style with strong presence on the production floor
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced, high‐volume environment
Solid problem‐solving skills with experience in root cause analysis
Strong communication skills across operators, QA, maintenance, and leadership
Data‐driven approach to performance monitoring and improvement
Qualifications (Preferred)
Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Food Science, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Operations Management
HACCP certification (or willingness to obtain)
Training in Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement methodologies
