Mechanical Designer (Material Handling & Plant Layout)
A growing engineering manufacturer involved in mechanical systems, industrial equipment, and fabricated assemblies, servicing mining, FMCG, and industrial clients.
Mechanical Design and Drafting of conveyors, chutes, material handling components, and plant layout.
Key responsibilities:
Lead your design projects from initial concept through to completion.
Design conveyors and material handling equipment, belts, rollers, idlers, pulleys, drives, chutes, transfer points, hoppers, guards and frames.
Design and detail fabricated steel structures, skid structures, support frames, tanks, platforms, walkways, stairs, brackets and machine supports.
Develop plant layouts, equipment layouts, mechanical arrangements and pipework/access systems.
Skeletal modelling to drive design criteria, dimensions, constraints, parameters.
Produce 3D models, GA drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs, MTOs,



weld details and workshop-ready drawing packs.
Respond to workshop feedback, design changes, RFIs and practical fabrication issues during the build.
Liaise with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to clarify scope, resolve issues and keep design and projects moving.
Ensure designs are accurate and to Australian Standards.
What is required:
Trade-qualified designer who's moved from the tools into design, or degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer.
5–10+ years' design experience across material handling, bulk handling, conveyors, machinery or capital equipment.
Robust with 3D CAD, Inventor OR SolidWorks.
Ability to produce manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, layouts, BOMs and technical documentation.
Real workshop exposure, you know what a fabricator can and can't build.
