Ocius Technology is an Australian company dedicated to developing and deploying cutting edge Uncrewed Surface Vehicles (USVs).
Our vessel's harness Wind, Solar and Wave power to remain at sea collecting vital data for Defence and Civilian applications.
We are under contracts with RAN, RNZN and USA and are responding in an agile way to an ambitious program of building and deploying multiple USVs for operations around Australia and beyond.
About the Role
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide broader accounting support as Ocius continues to scale.
The primary focus of this role in the first 6-12 months will be to focus on the Accounts Payable and Payroll functions.
Primary day-to-day duties outside of the initial focus will be updating general ledgers, journals, and balance sheets with daily financial data, reconciliations and month-end support as well as financial, tax and audit reporting and compliance as instructed by the Senior Accountant.
The roles and responsibilities of this an Assistant Accountant at Ocius will include:
Accounts Payable
Process supplier invoices accurately and within required timeframes; matching invoices against purchase orders and approval workflows.
Manage supplier enquiries and maintain positive vendor relationships.
Prepare and process weekly and monthly payment runs.
Reconcile supplier statements and investigate discrepancies and monitor accounts payable ageing and outstanding liabilities
Payroll Administration
Assist with end-to-end payroll processing.
Maintain employee payroll records, timesheets, and supporting documentation.
Ensure compliance with relevant awards, taxation, superannuation, and employment legislation.
Support payroll reconciliations and reporting requirements.
Respond to employee payroll enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Accounting and Finance Support
Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, process journal entries and support general ledger maintenance.
Support external audit requirements and statutory compliance obligations and continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.
Assist with the implementation and optimisation of financial systems and processes.
Support ad hoc projects and business initiatives as required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
2-5 years' experience in an accounting, accounts payable, payroll, or assistant accountant position.
Understanding of Australian accounting principles and payroll legislation.
Robust Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting
Must be able to be eligible for security clearance of up to NV1 clearance level;
Must be able to work on-site 4 days (1 day WFH);

Due to the nature of our business, we require Australian Citizenship for all roles.
In this role you would need the ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance (do not require a clearance before commencing).
