Senior Solicitor (Care & Protection/Family Law)
Job: ******* | Full-Time | Permanent | Newcastle, NSW| $145,088 - $148,379 (Based on Experience)

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement.
We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.
Your Impact
Deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate legal advice and representation in Care and Protection and Family Law matters.
Manage a complex caseload, including court appearances, legal research, case preparation, and client advocacy.
Provide strategic legal guidance to Aboriginal families, children and young people, supporting positive legal outcomes.
Mentor and support junior solicitors, contributing to a collaborative, high-performing and culturally safe legal team.
Build and maintain solid relationships with clients, communities, stakeholders and partner agencies to enhance service delivery.
Contribute to law reform, policy development and continuous improvement initiatives that advance justice for Aboriginal communities.
Your Story & Strengths
A NSW Practising Certificate with a minimum of 4 years' experience and knowledge of relevant NSW Care, Protection and Family Legislation.
Capacity to represent Aboriginal clients and undertake an advocacy role before Courts or Tribunals.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to provide quality customer service in a high-volume work environment.
Proven capacity to identify and understand legal issues facing socially and economically disadvantaged Aboriginal peoples.
Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written communications, including court documents, correspondence, submissions, and other legal materials.
Well-developed legal research/analytical and statutory interpretation skills.
