National Licensing
Brisbane
Finished a law degree but not sold on practice?
Working as a paralegal, law clerk, or legal secretary and ready to own your own matters?
This is the analytical core of legal work - statutory interpretation, evidence assessment, formal submissions to a regulator - applied to construction licensing instead of litigation.
No PLT.
No admission required.
And your earnings aren't capped by a lockstep salary band - strong performers earn $90k-$110k.
About National Licensing
National Licensing is a growing consultancy that manages builder and trade licence applications end-to-end with the QBCC and other state licensing authorities.
Our clients are construction business owners - builders and tradies whose livelihoods depend on getting licensed.
We assess their eligibility, gather and test their evidence against the regulator's standards, and prepare complete, professional applications built for a high probability of success.
The outcomes are high-stakes and real: a licence can transform a client's income and business overnight.
The role
As a Junior Licensing Consultant you'll be the primary point of contact for your own clients, managing each matter from first enquiry through to licence outcome.
Day to day you will:
Interpret licensing legislation and regulator requirements across Queensland and other states
Assess client evidence - contracts, plans, permits, invoices, scope of works, financials - against the QBCC's Accepted Evidence Standard
Prepare experience summaries, referee reports and complete application packs for submission to the regulator
Conduct referee calls and manage communications with clients and the regulator at every stage
Run a full QA check on every application before it's submitted - we hold ourselves to a 99% approval rate
Respond to regulator Requests for Information and see each matter through to a decision
Keep meticulous records in our CRM and document management systems
You'll work with direct authority to submit applications and deal with regulators, reporting to our COO, with clear escalation support for anything non-standard.
As we expand into more states, you'll build expertise in recent licensing regimes as the business grows.
Who this suits
We've found this role fits people with legal training or legal-industry experience who want responsibility now, not in five years:
Law graduates who've decided practising isn't for them (or aren't sure yet) - no PLT or admission needed
Paralegals and law clerks ready to run their own files instead of supporting someone else's
Junior and graduate lawyers who want the intellectual work of law with client ownership and uncapped earnings from day one
Legal secretaries with sharp document management skills looking for a step up into client-facing, analytical work
Final-year law students seeking a genuine graduate role (full-time or part-time while you finish)
What you'll bring
A law degree (completed or near-complete) or equivalent experience in legal support, administration, or regulatory processing
Forensic attention to detail - you'll cross-check complex documentation against regulatory checklists where errors matter
Strong written communication - your work goes to clients and a regulator
Confidence on the phone with down-to-earth people - our clients are builders and tradies, and they value plain speech, patience and follow-through
The ability to juggle multiple concurrent matters to deadlines
Comfort with CRM systems and cloud document platforms (e.g. SharePoint) - or the aptitude to pick them up fast
Experience with the QBCC or other regulators, or a background in construction, is a bonus - not a requirement.
We'll train you in the licensing side; you bring the analytical rigour.
Why you'll like it here
Real pay.
$65k-75k base + super, plus uncapped bonus and commissions - on-target earnings of $90k-110k put strong performers above most graduate legal salaries outside top-tier firms
Real responsibility.
Own client matters end-to-end from day one, reporting directly to the COO
Real outcomes.
Every approval means a client's business can grow - you'll hear it in their voice
Real flexibility.
Full-time or part-time, in a growing business expanding nationally - early hires grow with it
