About the role
Official Position Title:Mental Health Specialist Counsellor / Intake Worker
Location:South Brisbane




Working days:Working days are flexible and can be discussed with the successful candidate.
The Healing and Recovery team provides specialist counselling, case management and therapeutic groups for women and gender-diverse people living in the Brisbane LGA who have experienced domestic, family and sexual violence at any point in their lives.
Counselling is the primary focus of this role.
Alongside your counselling work, you'll also support intake, triage and case management, helping women access safe, timely and compassionate support when they need it most.
Approximately two days each week will be focused on providing specialist trauma-informed counselling, with one day dedicated to intake, triage, case management and referral coordination.
As a Mental Health Specialist Counsellor / Intake Worker, you will:
Deliver specialist trauma-informed counselling through face-to-face, telephone and telehealth appointments.
Complete intake, assessment and triage for new participants.
Undertake risk assessments and collaborative safety planning.
Develop, monitor and review participant support plans.
Provide warm referrals and assist women to navigate appropriate support services.
Assist with managing referrals, appointments and waitlists.
Contribute to therapeutic and psychoeducational group programs where appropriate.
Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice and career development.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement and best-practice service delivery.
This is an office-based role located in South Brisbane.
A current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) is required prior to commencement.
About you
You are an experienced, compassionate practitioner who believes recovery happens through safe, respectful and empowering therapeutic relationships.

You'll also bring:
A Bachelor or postgraduate qualification in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology.
At least two years' experience providing counselling to people experiencing trauma, mental health concerns and/or domestic, family and sexual violence.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed, gender-responsive and culturally safe practice.
Experience undertaking risk assessment and safety planning.
Excellent communication, assessment and relationship-building skills.
Confidence using client management systems, Microsoft Office and telehealth platforms.
