About This Opportunity
Join the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research (QCMHR) and contribute to research that has the power to improve lives.
This exciting prospect will see you join the Physical and Mental Health Stream as a Research Fellow, working within a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing team dedicated to advancing understanding of severe mental illness and its physical health comorbidities.
Drawing on large-scale epidemiological data, clinical research and evidence synthesis, you will play a pivotal role in generating knowledge that informs clinical practice, policy and improved health outcomes.
Supported by a connected network of leading researchers and clinicians, you will have the opportunity to build your research profile, develop innovative research programs, and create meaningful change through research with real-world impact.
Key responsibilities will include:
Research: Conduct high-impact research investigating the relationship between pharmacological treatments, severe mental illness and physical health outcomes; analyse and interpret large psychiatric epidemiological datasets; undertake systematic reviews and evidence synthesis; contribute to clinical guideline development; publish research findings; secure competitive funding; and translate research into policy and clinical practice.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise and mentor Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and psychiatry registrars; support researcher development through guidance on statistical analyses, scholarly projects and grant applications; and foster a collaborative and supportive research environment.
Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership through collaboration, mentoring and active participation in strategic initiatives; contribute to committee and administrative responsibilities; support colleagues and broader unit operations; and develop partnerships with industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community.
Teaching: Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities where required, deliver high-quality learning experiences, respond to student feedback, and support continuous improvement and innovation in teaching practice.
About You
Completion of a PhD in psychiatry, psychology, pharmacy, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a closely related discipline, with strong expertise in quantitative and epidemiological research methods.
Demonstrated experience analysing and reporting data from clinical trials and/or observational studies, including proficiency with statistical software such as R, STATA and/or SAS.
Proven skills in systematic reviews, meta-analyses and evidence synthesis, with the ability to deliver high-quality research outcomes.
An emerging research track record evidenced by publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, and contributions to the research community.
Experience contributing to or securing competitive research funding, and an understanding of research governance processes, including ethics and grant applications.
Strong communication, collaboration and supervisory skills, with the ability to mentor students and early-career researchers while building productive partnerships across academic, clinical and stakeholder groups.
