General Responsibilities/Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting with student education programs, attendance, discipline, extra-curricular activities, scheduling, and staff supervision.
Partners with building principal and district administration in managing all aspects of the student experience in the middle school.
Essential Functions/Duties:
In conjunction with the Principal, coordinates the planning, direction and delivery of the middle school discipline program
Investigates and takes action regarding student situations that may warrant discipline through meeting with affected parties and gathering and documenting facts
Partners with building administration to resolve significant and/or on-going student behavior situations
Communicates disciplinary consequences with students in a learning environment that maintains self-esteem
Maintains records and documentation of all student disciplinary action taken
Communicates with building administration on disciplinary statistics and trends
Works collaboratively with other administrators to facilitate the restorative practices program
Coordinates the development, maintenance and distribution of student handbooks and other school program resources
Oversees student attendance, working with building administration and when necessary, community and governmental agencies, to resolve chronic issues
Assists with supervision of student activities including extracurricular and sporting events
Coordinates the Student Assistance Program (SAP) in the middle school,
partnering with school counselors and the Assistant to the Superintendent for Student Support Services and Compliance, Safety & Security Coordinator to ensure that appropriate resources are provided to students.
Assists in review of enrollment, class schedules, facility assignments, and conflict resolution in the secondary complex.
Participates in the facilitation of student support programs, such as SAP.
Provides professional support for teachers
Assists Principal with staff supervision, including class visits, observations, and evaluations.
Assists Principal with facilitating high quality professional development based on teacher and building needs.
Assists Principal in monitoring data and leading the MTSS process based on attendance, behavior, and grades.
Establish positive rapport with staff built on mutual respect.
Display the highest level of ethical and professional behavior when working as a role model for students and teachers.
New staff hiring and the building's onboarding process.
Serves as the School Assessment Coordinator (SAC) for state standardized tests (PSSA and Keystone).
Assists with school safety requirements including organizing teams, trainings, and school wide drills.
Oversees clubs and activities at the middle school level.
Participates in professional development to consistently improve instructional leadership to drive student growth.
Communicates regularly and effectively with students, parents, and teachers.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent, or Superintendent.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of current middle school level education principles and practices
Considerable knowledge of student development at the middle school level
Considerable knowledge of applicable education law and regulations
Considerable knowledge of PA state standards (6-8th grade)
Knowledge of effective middle school disciplinary principles and practices
Educational leadership skills
Planning and organization skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, parents, educational staff, Board members and applicable community agencies
Strong educational leadership and interpersonal skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Exceptional PC and Mac skills
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Training:
Master's Degree with PA teaching certificate
Experience:
Prefer five years of teaching or equivalent experience
Required Certification/Licenses:
PA Administrative certificate (K-12 Principal).
Travel Requirements:
Within the District; other locations for training and meetings
Physical and Mental Job Requirements:
Typically sits for sustained periods of time at a desk and/or computer
Typically requires close visual acuity involved with preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen and extensive reading
Physically active, standing and walking for extended periods of time
Occasional bending, crouching, stooping, twisting, reaching and grasping
Some lifting, up to 25 pounds
Manual dexterity and repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding
Able to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications
Able to function at a high level in a fast paced work environment
