Company Description CAYLUS (Central Australian Youth Link Up Service) is a community-focused organization whose mission is to support local initiatives that improve quality of life and address substance misuse affecting young people in Central Australia.
Established in November **** as a petrol sniffing prevention project, CAYLUS emerged in response to widespread substance misuse issues in the region.
The service now works across communities to reduce the impact of harmful substances by addressing supply, harm, and demand.
CAYLUS collaborates with community members, service providers, and stakeholders to create sustainable, culturally informed solutions for young people.
Team members are part of a values-driven organization committed to practical, on-the-ground support and long-term change.Role Description The Senior Community Development Worker is a full-time, on-site role based in Alice Springs, NT.
This position involves working closely with communities to design, implement, and support local initiatives that reduce substance misuse and enhance the wellbeing of young people.
Day-to-day tasks include building strong relationships with community members and leaders, coordinating community projects, providing guidance and support to youth-focused programs, and assisting with case management where appropriate.
The role also includes collaborating with partner organizations, collecting and documenting information to inform service improvements, and contributing to planning and reporting.
The Senior Community Development Worker may mentor other staff, help develop best practice approaches, and participate in community meetings, workshops, and outreach activities.Qualifications Candidates should possess solid Interpersonal Skills and Communication abilities to build trust, collaborate effectively, and engage with diverse community members and stakeholders.Candidates should possess Community Support and Community Health experience to design, deliver, and evaluate initiatives that address substance misuse and promote wellbeing.Candidates should possess Case Management skills to support individuals and families, coordinate referrals, and maintain accurate and confidential records.Candidates should have experience working in community development, social work, youth work, or a related field, ideally in remote or regional settings.Candidates should have knowledge of issues affecting young people, including substance misuse, and an understanding of culturally safe, trauma-informed practice.Candidates should be able to work independently and as part of a team, show resilience in challenging environments, and demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving skills.Relevant qualifications in community services, social sciences, public health, or a related discipline are highly regarded; equivalent experience will also be considered.A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to remote communities as required are beneficial.
