Matthew C. Smith Racing is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our reliable at Warwick Farm (Sydney).

The position is full‑time 38Hrs with early morning starts, and weekend work is required on a roster rotation.

The applicant must be able to educate our young horses on the ground whilst managing a small team of horses and staff under the direction of the head foreperson. The salary for this position will be above award – in the range of $79,499 per annum depending upon the level of skill.

Essential Skills

All applicants must have a minimum of 3 years full time skilled experience in the role and be able to prove they are reliable workers with excellent horsemanship skills. In addition the following will be required: Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing.



Proven ability to train and educate young horses. A vocational level of English to be able to communicate in the work place and take instruction Desirable, Training horses to obey natural and artificial aids, resolving horse problems like Shying/spooking/balking/bolting, Schooling Horses over jumps, Barrier and Jump Out education, Occasional Strapping duties, Tacking up/Bathing/Grooming Duties, Check Secure for hazards whilst mucking out and box duties, Treat Swelling and or minor injuries, Maintain Horse condition/health & work records, Form Trackwork Schedules and training Program.

Qualification: A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification.
