Senior Financial Accountant (Fixed-Term Contract)
MindChamps Early Learning & Preschool is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a
fixed-term contract basis
. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key strategic role in managing our financial accounting and reporting functions. Based in Parramatta, NSW, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with accounting standards, and providing timely financial insights to support business decision-making. This contract position offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to a leading early learning provider whilst developing your expertise in the education sector.
Key responsibilities
Preparing and maintaining accurate financial records and general ledger entries in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
Managing the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations and journal entries
Preparing financial statements, trial balances and other financial reports for management and external stakeholders
Overseeing month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring deadlines are met and all documentation is complete
Reconciling balance sheet accounts and investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly
Supporting the audit process by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor queries
Ensuring compliance with tax obligations, GST requirements and other regulatory financial reporting requirements
Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis to support financial planning
Mentoring junior accounting staff and providing guidance on accounting policies and procedures
Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and implementing accounting system enhancements
What we're looking for
A qualification in accounting, such as a Bachelor of Commerce, CPA or equivalent accounting qualification




Minimum 5 years' professional experience in financial accounting and reporting roles
Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AAS) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Proficiency with accounting software systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with cloud-based accounting platforms is advantageous
Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate financial statements and reports independently
Experience with month-end and year-end financial close processes
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies
Sound understanding of tax compliance, GST and payroll accounting requirements
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
Experience in the education, early learning or not-for-profit sector would be highly valued
Proven ability to mentor and support junior team members in a collaborative environment
