ThaInABox is a busy Thai-inspired noodle bar concept located in Merrylands, serving fresh, fast and flavour-packed Asian fusion food.
We are looking for an experienced Sous Chef / Asian Fusion Chef to help run the kitchen, lead the team, and bring fresh ideas to our menu. This role is ideal for someone who is confident with high-volume wok cooking, understands Thai and Asian flavours, and can work in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
About the Role
You will be responsible for assisting with the day-to-day running of the kitchen, maintaining food quality and consistency, managing service flow, and helping develop new dishes for the venue.
This is a hands-on role, and you must be confident cooking on the wok during busy service.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support the kitchen team during busy lunch and dinner services
Prepare and cook Thai and Asian fusion dishes to a high standard
Confidently operate wok stations in a rapid-paced workplace
Create and develop new menu items and specials
Maintain consistency, speed and quality across all dishes
Manage stock, ordering, prep lists and kitchen organisation
Ensure food safety, hygiene and cleanliness standards are followed
Train junior kitchen staff and help build a strong team culture
Work closely with management to improve the menu, service and kitchen systems
What We’re Looking For
Experience as a Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or senior wok chef
Strong wok cooking skills are essential
Experience with Thai, Asian fusion, noodle bar or casual dining concepts
Ability to work quickly and stay calm under pressure
Good understanding of flavour balance, sauces, prep and kitchen flow
Ability to lead a team and take ownership of the kitchen
Creative mindset with the ability to introduce current dishes
Strong work ethic, reliability and attention to detail
