Join a First Nations-led not-for-profit charitable organisation operating independent special assistance micro-schools across Queensland, providing education pathways for young people re-engaging with learning.
Governed by Indigenous leaders, the organisation delivers programs on Traditional Land and is committed to an Indigenous-led response for young people who have disengaged from mainstream education.
Through strong community partnerships, students are supported to build confidence, practical skills and pathways towards positive futures.
Located in the South Burnett region, approximately two hours from Noosa on Wakka Wakka Country, this co-educational school is guided by the principle of being Two-World Strong - supporting students to thrive within their cultural identity while engaging successfully with the wider community.
Developed through an Indigenous-led initiative by community Elders, the school works alongside education and community services to create meaningful opportunities for young people.
Learning programs are culturally rich, personalised and aligned with the Australian Curriculum, incorporating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, cultural knowledge, vocational learning and the 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning.
This role is within the Young Men's Program and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through personalised, relationship-based education.
Primary-trained teachers are particularly encouraged to apply, as many students in Years 7-12 are working towards primary-level literacy and numeracy skills.
With small class sizes of approximately six to seven students and strong education support worker coverage, teachers can focus on building meaningful relationships and tailoring learning to individual needs.
The successful applicant will be creative, flexible, trauma-informed and culturally self-aware, with a willingness to engage in practical, outdoor and on-Country learning experiences.
The program combines academic learning with wellbeing activities, ranger work, camps, community engagement and regular Friday excursions.
Teachers are supported with prepared curriculum and resources,



Central Office planning and learning adjustments, while having the flexibility to adapt learning to suit the strengths, interests and needs of their students.
Teachers are also encouraged to draw on their own skills and use literacy and numeracy frameworks, including resources such as YuMi Deadly Maths to support student growth and engagement.
The school takes a restorative, relationship-based approach that focuses on building trust, confidence and positive pathways for young people.
Beyond the school, the South Burnett region offers a relaxed country lifestyle with plenty to explore.
Ficks Crossing Recreation Area provides a beautiful natural setting for swimming, fishing, kayaking, picnics and enjoying time outdoors along Barambah Creek.

Salary range $****** - $******* per annum.
The school will match a candidate's previous pay on a case-by-case basis

Requirements
Queensland College of Teachers registration (or eligibility to obtain).
A recognised teaching qualification.
Ability to differentiate learning and adapt curriculum to meet diverse student needs and abilities.
A flexible and creative approach to teaching, with the ability to deliver engaging, practical and hands-on learning experiences.
Understanding of explicit teaching practices, including building routines, modelling learning and breaking concepts into achievable steps.
Ability to develop personalised learning programs that support student growth, engagement and achievement.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, community and colleagues.
Commitment to culturally responsive practice and willingness to learn from and work alongside Aboriginal educators, families and community.
Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches, recognising behaviour as communication and supporting students to learn, repair and grow.
Ability to create inclusive learning environments that respect cultural, social and linguistic diversity.
Commitment to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, local cultural knowledge and community experiences into learning programs.
Willingness to participate in practical, outdoor, community-based and on-Country learning experiences.
Experienced teachers and outstanding graduates will be considered.
Candidates must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or Australian permanent resident citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work.
