Headquartered in Sydney, SEDA brings local expertise in the integration of optronics and navigation systems for the air, land, and naval platforms of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.
PURPOSE / OBJECTIVES:
The Systems Engineer supports the company's defence projects by applying rigorous and effective systems engineering practices.
This role requires strong foundational knowledge of systems engineering methodologies to ensure successful project outcomes through accurate definition, documentation, and validation of system requirements, development of robust system architectures, and implementation of comprehensive verification strategies.
Additionally, the Systems Engineer provides essential engineering insights and input during proposal and capture phases.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core Systems Engineering
Develop and review system specifications, ensuring clarity, uniqueness, specificity, measurability, and verifiability.
Prepare detailed system architecture documentation, including System/Subsystem Design Descriptions (SSDD) and System Architecture Descriptions (SAD).
Prepare detailed interface documentation and technical papers related to the project.
Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V;)
Establish and maintain Verification Cross-Reference Matrices (VCRM).
Plan, execute, and manage verification activities, including Acceptance Test Plans (ATP),
Acceptance Test Procedures (ATProcs), and Acceptance Test Reports (ATR).
Engineering Tasks: Capture Phase and Project Execution
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop compliance matrices and track key product metrics.
Prepare for and actively participate in Mandated Systems Reviews.
Lead assigned engineering work packages.
Engage with subject matter experts in Optics, Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT), Safety, and other relevant domains to produce specialised technical documentation.
Oversee and coordinate subcontractors' technical activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements and standards.
Configuration Management
Define, coordinate, and manage product Functional Baselines (FBL) and Allocated Baselines (ABL).
Maintain accurate Product Baselines (PBL).
Organise and chair the Change Control Board (CCB), manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), deviations, and track product issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 3 years of Systems Engineering experience ideally in a defence industry environment
Demonstrated experience in systems engineering, specifically in requirements management, validation and verification (IV&V;), system architecture development, and product integration.
Familiarity with Defence acquisition frameworks, particularly ASDEFCON, is highly desirable.
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance.
