Project Engineer - Energy, Utilities and Sustainability
Talent International
is currently recruiting for a
Project Engineer - Energy, Utilities and Sustainability
to work for the
Local Government,
based in
Rooty Hill.
This position is a contract role for
8 months initially, with a view to be extended,
and the role pays
$***** per hour + Super.
7 hours a day / 35 hours a week
This position will act as the organisation's technical lead and Subject Matter Expert for energy management, utilities, renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon reduction. You will analyse energy performance, identify cost and emissions-reduction opportunities, and deliver strategic energy and sustainability initiatives across facilities and operational sites.
The role will also provide technical support for the transition to a zero-emission fleet, including energy-demand forecasting, electrical capacity assessments and planning for future EV-charging infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
Develop and continuously improve energy, utility, renewable energy and carbon-reduction strategies.
Analyse electricity and gas consumption, demand profiles, network charges and utility expenditure.
Forecast future energy requirements associated with organisational growth, capital works and fleet electrification.
Prepare business cases, lifecycle costings, financial models and investment proposals.
Manage the organisation's solar PV portfolio, including performance monitoring, maintenance, warranties and contractors.
Identify opportunities involving rooftop solar, battery energy storage systems, microgrids and other renewable technologies.
Provide technical advice and capacity assessments for EV-charging infrastructure, depots and operational facilities.
Coordinate utility connections,



upgrades and electrical infrastructure planning.
Lead energy-efficiency, emissions-reduction and sustainability initiatives.
Develop procurement strategies and manage contracts for electricity, gas, renewable energy systems and related services.
Prepare tender documentation, technical specifications and evaluation criteria.
Manage energy and sustainability projects, including scope, budget, schedule, risks, consultants and contractors.
Develop dashboards, KPIs and executive reports covering energy use, costs, renewable generation and emissions.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, governance frameworks and organisational policies.
Build relationships with retailers, network providers, consultants, contractors, regulators and government agencies.
About you
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
Qualifications in engineering, energy, sustainability or another relevant discipline.
Strong experience in energy management, utilities, renewable energy or sustainability projects.
Technical knowledge of electricity demand, tariffs, network capacity and energy infrastructure.
Experience with solar PV, battery storage, energy-efficiency initiatives and carbon-reduction planning.
Understanding of EV-charging infrastructure and the energy requirements associated with fleet electrification.
Robust data analysis, forecasting, financial modelling and business-case development skills.
Demonstrated project, procurement, tender and contract-management experience.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
Strong stakeholder-management, report-writing and communication skills.
Local Government or public-sector experience would be highly regarded.
