About the RoleAn opportunity exists for an Assistant Shuttle Bus Driver to join our Defence Transport Services team.This position will initially operate on a flexible, on-call basis until November, approximately 15 hours per week across three days. Shift times may vary depending on operational requirements, making flexibility and availability key to success in the role.From November, the successful candidate will have the chance to step into a period of full-time hours (Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 3:00pm) for approximately 6–8 months,
providing support during a maternity leave period.The role combines driving duties with hands-on fleet support activities, working closely with the existing transport team to maintain a safe, efficient, and reliable service.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the transportation of Defence personnel to appointments and designated locations (from November)
Support daily transport operations and vehicle movements
Drive Defence fleet vehicles as required
Prepare vehicles for use by maintaining presentation and cleanliness standards
Transport vehicles to and from servicing, repairs, and maintenance appointments
Conduct routine vehicle inspections and operational checks
Assist with minor vehicle maintenance activities
Complete mail collection, sorting, and delivery between Defence locations
Maintain transport records and complete required documentation
Follow all safety procedures and report hazards or incidents promptly
About YouYou are a dependable and safety-focused driver who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team. You bring a versatile approach to work and can adapt to changing operational requirements.
To be successful, you will have:
A current Australian Driver Licence (minimum Class C)
Driver Accreditation, or the ability to obtain it before commencement
Previous driving experience in transport, logistics,
fleet services, bus operations, delivery services, or a similar environment
Strong safety awareness and a commitment to following procedures
Good communication and time management skills
The ability to work independently and take initiative
Flexibility to work casual, on-call hours and accommodate increased hours from November
Security and Compliance RequirementsDue to the nature of this role, applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.Successful candidates will be required to:
Be an Australian Citizen
Complete a National Police Check
Undertake a pre-employment medical assessment
Meet all Defence security clearance requirements
