We are seeking an experienced
Finance and Payroll Officer
who is committed to excellence, accuracy and ethical financial management. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the organisation maintains the highest standards of financial stewardship, payroll compliance and accountability across multiple government-funded programs.
This position is suited to a finance skilled who values accuracy over assumptions, communicates openly when issues arise, exercises sound professional judgement, and understands that strong financial governance is fundamental to delivering quality community services.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with detail, values continuous improvement and recognises that every payroll processed, every reconciliation completed and every funding allocation contributes to the trust our clients, staff, funders and community place in Phoenix House.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Business Administrator and the Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day financial administration of the organisation, including payroll, financial processing and supporting financial reporting across multiple funding streams.
Key responsibilities include:
Process accurate end-to-end fortnightly payroll.
Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment conditions.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Complete bank, payroll and general ledger reconciliations.
Prepare journals and assist with month-end and end-of-year financial processes.
Monitor expenditure and maintain accurate financial records across multiple funding agreements.
Assist with funding acquittals, financial reporting and external audit preparation.
Maintain strong internal financial controls and contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
Work collaboratively with leadership to provide timely, accurate and transparent financial information.
Support organisational compliance with legislative, contractual and governance requirements.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:
A minimum
Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, Accounting, Finance or another relevant qualification
.
A minimum of two years' experience within a not-for-profit organisation or an organisation managing multiple funding streams, or demonstrated experience managing complex financial allocations across multiple cost centres, programs or funding sources.
Demonstrated experience processing end-to-end payroll.
Sound knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation, leave administration and employment conditions.
Strong reconciliation skills and high attention to detail.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
Desirable
The following experience will be highly regarded:
Xero Accounting and Xero Payroll.
SCHADS Award interpretation.
Financial reporting for government-funded programs.
Funding acquittals and grant reporting.
Supporting external financial audits.
Process improvement and quality management systems.
