We are seeking a motivated
Public Health Registrar
to join the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit (GRPHU). This unique training opportunity will enable you to work across the full spectrum of public health practice, including disease prevention, health protection, health promotion, epidemiology, surveillance, and research. You will contribute to protecting and improving the health of Gippsland communities through communicable disease management, outbreak response, policy development, and population health initiatives while working alongside multidisciplinary public health, infectious diseases, and research teams.

The role of the
Public Health Registrar
is to:
Provide medical and public health support for communicable disease prevention and control, including case management, contact tracing, outbreak investigations, and incident response activities
Analyse public health data and surveillance information to identify risks, monitor trends, and inform evidence-based public health decision‐making.
Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of public health policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at improving population health outcomes.
Support health promotion and disease prevention activities, with a focus on addressing health inequalities and improving community wellbeing across Gippsland.
Engage with healthcare providers, community organisations, government agencies, and regional stakeholders to provide public health advice, education, and support.
Participate in public health research, epidemiological projects, and quality improvement initiatives that strengthen public health practice and service delivery.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
Registered Medical Practitioner with AHPRA and currently enrolled in, or eligible for, the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine Advanced Training Program.
Demonstrated knowledge of public health medicine, epidemiology, disease surveillance, and population health interventions.




Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and apply evidence-based approaches to public health challenges.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse teams and organisations.
Adaptable and proactive, with the ability to respond effectively to changing priorities, outbreak responses, and public health emergencies.
Passionate about improving community health outcomes through prevention, promotion, research, and health protection activities.

Victorian Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine Registrar Coordinated Recruitment Process
Gippsland Region Public Health Unit is participating in a coordinated recruitment process for **** to support planning for applicants who wish to apply to multiple organisations. Participating organisations commit to coordinating the timing of their advertising, interviewing and offers, to increase the efficiency and transparency of the recruitment processes for all parties. Each organisation will conduct their own interviews, and interview processes may differ between organisations.
Following interviews, offers will be made to candidates between Monday 31 August and Friday 11 September.
Individual candidates may receive initial offers from multiple organisations and will be given a strict timeframe to decide whether to accept or reject the offer. Once a successful candidate accepts an offer from an organisation, they are removed from the recruitment pool and will not receive further offers from any other organisation participating in this process.
