The Role:
We are seeking an experienced an Accountant to join our Finance team at Forster & Mayo Private Hospitals. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining balance sheet integrity, and supporting audit and compliance requirements in a complex operating setting.
This is a hands‐on role suited to someone who can work independently, apply sound professional judgement, and communicate effectively with both finance and non‐finance stakeholders. Note: this role may include travel commitments between the Mid North Coast and Newcastle.
About You
You are a technically capable accountant with strong attention to detail and the ability to take ownership of your work. You are confident explaining financial information and comfortable working to deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and review month‐end and year‐end financial reports in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards
Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare journals, accruals, provisions, and supporting documentation
Support internal and external audits, including preparation of audit workpapers
Provide variance analysis and clear financial commentary
Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls




Provide guidance and support to junior finance and administration staff as required
You will have:
Tertiary qualification in Commerce or similar
Working toward CPA or CA
Minimum 5 years' experience in a financial or senior accounting role
Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards
Proven experience with balance sheet reconciliations and audits
Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
Clear communication skills and a professional, proactive approach
Experience in a healthcare, government, or regulated environment will be highly regarded
