DefendTex are seeking an experienced Electronics Engineer as well as an early career Electronics Engineer (2 position available) to join an expanding team working on the development of cutting-edge Defence technologies. Specifically, the role will be focused on design and development of a range of novel unmanned systems technologies. The initial focus will be on UAV subsystem design, with opportunities to contribute across a broader portfolio of advanced technologies currently under development at DefendTex.
About this role:
Contribute across the full electronics design lifecycle from prototyping to production
Design and review schematics and PCBs
Develop and validate Mixed signal, high speed and high-power circuits
Support hardware integration, bring-up and debugging
Performing verification and validation of integrated hardware and field trials
Interpret and apply technical specifications and industry standards
DFM/DFT experience is highly desirable
Providing production support
Maintain design documentation and compliance artefacts
About you:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Systems, or Embedded Systems Engineering
5+ years of hands‐on electronics hardware design experience, delivering production-ready designs
Proven capability to own hardware designs end‐to‐end, including requirements definition, schematic capture, PCB layout oversight, bring‐up, validation, and release to manufacture
Strong foundation in analog, digital, mixed‐signal, power, and high‐speed circuit design
Experience designing space‐constrained and miniaturised electronics, including flexible polyimide PCBs
Practical knowledge of DFM/DFA/DFT principles, supporting SMT assembly, rework, and prototyping
Demonstrated expertise in hardware debugging and root‐cause analysis using lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, spectrum analyser)
Familiarity with RF circuit analysis and design, including signal integrity and EMC considerations
Experience working in tightly integrated multi‐disciplinary teams, collaborating with mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing engineers
Exposure to embedded software development (C, C++, Python) for bring‐up, test, and hardware validation
Comfortable working in fast‐paced, high‐reliability environments, applying structured engineering judgement and innovative problem‐solving
Australian Citizen, eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Government BASELINE security clearance
Not a prohibited person under Section 3 of the Firearms Act **** (Victoria)
Registration on the National Engineering Register (NER) and/or registration under the Qualified Engineers Registration Act **** is advantageous
