Olkola Aboriginal Corporation – Cape York QLD
Olkola Aboriginal Corporation is seeking two (2) permanent part time Endangered Species Officers to join our team and contribute to the protection and recovery of threatened flora and fauna on country. Olkola homelands are located in the southern central Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, where the Olkola Ranger teams are based. They work across Aboriginal freehold land including jointly managed estates in partnership with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services (QPWS).
This is a unique opportunity to be a part of important conservation work for endangered species such as Red Goshawk, Golden Shouldered Parrot, Ghost Bat and more unique wildlife while working alongside Olkola Rangers and QPWS.
About the Role
The Endangered Species Officers will undertake activities under conservation programs such as threatened species monitoring, research, habitat protection and biodiversity management. The successful applicant will help strengthen both Traditional Ecological Knowledge and scientific knowledge to support the long-term health of endangered flora and fauna on Olkola Country.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out endangered species monitoring and survey programs.
Assist with wildlife research, data collection and undertake ecological fieldwork.




Manage and analyse monitoring data and prepare reports.
Work alongside Olkola Rangers and QPWS
Ensure all field activities are undertaken safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and environmental standards.
Essential Skills and Experience
Qualifications in ecology, environmental science, natural resource management or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Experience conducting wildlife surveys, ecological monitoring, using GPS, GIS and ecological monitoring software.
Knowledge of Australian threatened, endangered species and/or conservation principles.
Strong organisational, communication and report-writing skills.
Experience driving 4WD vehicles off-road and in remote conditions
Current First aid and CPR Certification
Full manual driver's license is advantageous but not essential
