About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated Disability and Mental Health Support Worker to join our team. In this rewarding role, you will provide person-centred support to a young female client in her late teens who is living with complex mental health needs.
Your primary responsibility will be to help create and maintain a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that promotes her wellbeing, independence, and quality of life. You will build a trusting and respectful relationship while providing emotional support, assisting with daily living activities, encouraging community participation, and implementing individual support strategies in line with her care plan.
This position requires a patient, empathetic, and resilient individual who can respond calmly to challenging situations, maintain professional boundaries, and work collaboratively with the broader support team to deliver consistent, high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
Personal Care:
Provide mild personal care assistance as needed, ensuring the client's comfort and dignity at all times.
Prompting and Encouragement:
Offer consistent prompting and emotional support to help the client manage daily routines and tasks.
Transportation:
Drive the client to appointments, activities, and other necessary outings, ensuring her safety and comfort during travel.
Household Duties:
Assist with light house cleaning tasks to maintain a tidy and organized living space.
Companionship:
Build a trusting relationship with the client, offering companionship and a listening ear to support her emotional well-being.
Requirements
Qualifications:
A Certificate III or IV in Disability, Mental Health, or Community Services is preferred, but not essential. Relevant experience will be considered.
Experience:
Previous experience working with individuals with mental health challenges is highly desirable.
Driver's License:
A valid driver's license is required, along with a reliable vehicle.
Clearances:
Current First Aid/CPR certification, Working with Children Check, and a National Police Check.
Skills:
Strong communication skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
