Luminary Community Services

Albury

Do meaningful work, and be supported to do it well
"We contribute positively to the lives of people who need support to live a life they find meaningful."
Luminary Community Services was created because too many people with disability were falling through the gaps, particularly people whose needs did not fit neatly into existing categories or who required more individualised, thoughtful support.
We believe everyone has the right to feel protected, to be heard and to lead a life that is meaningful to them. Our role is to understand the whole person, not simply their diagnosis or behaviour, and work alongside them to create practical, respectful and sustainable change.
As a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner at Luminary, you will join a close-knit multidisciplinary team that genuinely cares about its participants, its work and one another.
We prioritise quality over quantity. You will have the time and support to understand the people you work with, collaborate meaningfully with their support networks and produce work you can stand behind.
We are primarily recruiting for a full‐time practitioner; however, we are open to discussing part‐time arrangements with the right person.
The opportunity
Good Positive Behaviour Support begins with curiosity. It means understanding the person, their environment, relationships, strengths and needs, and the purpose behind behaviour, before deciding what meaningful change should look like.
In this role, you will:
Complete functional behaviour assessments and develop practical, person‐centred Behaviour Support Plans within your experience and capability.
Work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support workers, educators and other professionals.
Provide coaching and training that helps support teams confidently implement strategies in everyday environments.
Monitor outcomes, review plans and adapt supports as people's needs and circumstances change.
Promote human rights, quality of life and the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices.
Maintain clear and accurate documentation that meets professional, organisational and NDIS requirements.
You will have meaningful autonomy over how you organise and deliver your work, supported by accessible clinical leadership and a team that values open discussion, shared knowledge and reflective practice.
What you can expect from Luminary
Quality over quantity
Our focus is meaningful, sustainable work, not simply getting through a caseload. We want you to have the capacity to think,

collaborate and provide support you are proud of.
Professional development that is properly supported
Full‐time practitioners receive a $4,000 annual professional development allowance and four days of paid career development leave each year.
Your development is shaped around your interests, professional goals and stage of practice, not a generic training calendar.
Structured clinical and operational supervision
Clinical supervision will occur at a frequency agreed with you, with a minimum of monthly supervision.
You will also receive separate monthly operational supervision, alongside informal support whenever you need to discuss a question, challenge or decision. You will not be expected to work through complex situations alone.
A voice in your workplace
You will be encouraged to contribute ideas about service delivery, clinical resources and how we work together. Good ideas are valued regardless of job title or seniority.
You will have genuine opportunities to influence the resources you use, the way your work is completed and how Luminary's services continue to develop.
Flexibility and work–life balance
We understand that professional satisfaction is difficult to sustain when work consistently competes with the rest of your life.
Flexible arrangements are available to help you shape a schedule that works for both you and the people you support.
A team that knows you
Luminary is a diverse, close-knit team. We share knowledge freely, celebrate one another's achievements and take a genuine interest in the people behind the professional roles.
You will work alongside practitioners with different backgrounds, perspectives and areas of experience, creating opportunities for collaboration and shared learning.
Room to build your career
As Luminary continues to grow, you will have opportunities to expand your skills, develop areas of professional interest and help shape what your future within the organisation looks like.
We are looking for someone who wants to build a meaningful career and contribute to a workplace we can all be proud of.
Who we are looking for
We hire the person, because we can teach the skills.

Experience and technical knowledge matter, but they are not the most important things that determine whether someone will thrive at Luminary.
We place strong value on curiosity, communication, accountability, open‐mindedness and a willingness to learn.
We are looking for someone who:
Is curious about people and seeks to understand before reaching conclusions.
Approaches Positive Behaviour Support ethically, respectfully and without judgement.
Is reflective, open to feedback and committed to continued learning.
Communicates clearly and builds trusting relationships.
Takes ownership of their commitments and seeks support early when it is needed.
Wants to contribute ideas rather than simply follow established processes.
Values collaboration while remaining confident working independently.
Wants their work to create meaningful change in people's everyday lives.
Qualifications and requirements
You will need:
A relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, behavioural science, education, occupational therapy, speech pathology or another relevant discipline.
Current suitability as an NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner, or the qualifications and experience required to apply through an appropriate NDIS Commission pathway.
Experience relevant to behaviour assessment, Behaviour Support Plan development and implementation, appropriate to the level of the position.
Strong written communication, interpersonal and report‐writing skills.
A current driver's licence and capacity to travel throughout Albury–Wodonga and surrounding areas.
A current NDIS Worker Screening Check and any other clearances required for the role, or a willingness to obtain them.
We welcome applications from established practitioners as well as people entering Positive Behaviour Support with relevant qualifications and transferable experience.
Luminary can support an appropriate new‐entry candidate through the NDIS Commission application process. Regulated practitioner duties can only commence once the Commission has made a suitability decision.
Interested?
If you are looking for a workplace where you can do meaningful work, continue growing and be valued as both a practitioner and a person, we would genuinely like to hear from you.
Luminary values diversity and welcomes applications from people with different backgrounds, identities, experiences and perspectives. Please let us know if you require any adjustments during the recruitment process.
