Senior Town Planner | Developer-Side Residential
THE OPPORTUNITY
The problem, and it is a very good one, is that the growth has not slowed down. We have only just filled one Town Planner role, and we are already back in the market for another. This is not a role churning through small residential DAs. You will work across major masterplanned communities, urban release areas, medium-density housing, neighbourhood centres and new regional growth corridors. It is a rare opportunity to work across the full planning lifecycle, from rezoning and structure planning through approvals, agency negotiation and staged delivery, then actually see entire communities come to life.
YOUR NEW EMPLOYER
Your new employer is one of Australia's fastest-growing ASX-listed groups, with operations spanning civil construction, infrastructure, construction materials, property and real estate. Its residential division is expanding rapidly, with a significant development pipeline ranging from greenfield land acquisitions through to completed communities. This is a business filled with ambitious people, big personalities and high expectations. It is hands‐on, fast-moving and commercially driven. Nobody hides behind a job title and everyone is expected to contribute. The Newcastle office continues to grow and, for the right planner, this role offers exposure and career progression that is genuinely difficult to find elsewhere in the local market. You will work alongside experienced development, construction and property professionals, backed by the support and stability of a listed group.
YOUR RECENT JOB
If you are a Town Planner looking for more ownership, pace and genuine development exposure, this could be it. You will sit at the centre of planning, development and delivery, helping manage projects from early site assessment and masterplanning through to subdivision approvals, lot delivery and residential construction. One day you could be reviewing a potential acquisition with the development team. The next, you may be negotiating conditions with council,
coordinating consultants against critical deadlines or working through staging strategies to prevent delays before they happen. This is a role where your ability to think ahead and keep projects moving will have a genuine impact on delivery and commercial outcomes.
You will be responsible for:
Managing projects through the planning and approvals process
Preparing, reviewing and lodging development and subdivision applications
Supporting rezoning, structure planning and masterplanning activities
Coordinating engineers, surveyors, urban designers and specialist consultants
Managing relationships with councils, certifiers, agencies and stakeholders
Reviewing planning controls, zoning and development opportunities
Monitoring approval conditions, risks and project timelines
Working closely with development and construction teams
Identifying issues early and resolving them before they delay delivery
Managing stakeholder meetings, site inspections and consultant performance
ABOUT YOU
You are likely already working developer-side, client-side or within a private planning consultancy and are ready for greater ownership of the development process. You understand that successful planning is not simply about preparing reports. It is about building relationships, navigating competing interests and keeping projects moving. Ideally, you will bring:
Five or more years of Town Planning experience
Experience across residential development, subdivisions and DA management
Confidence dealing with councils, consultants, certifiers and government agencies
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills
The ability to manage competing projects and deadlines
Commercial thinking and the confidence to take ownership
A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues
Most importantly, you are someone who likes getting things done. If you want to work on projects of genuine scale, influence how communities are shaped and join a business whose growth is creating real career opportunities, this is worth a conversation.
