u&u; Recruitment Partners is partnering with a Queensland Government department to recruit a Principal Communications Officer. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced communications professional to step into a leadership role, delivering strategic communication and engagement initiatives across a diverse portfolio while leading a small team within a collaborative, high-performing environment.
Reporting to the Communication Manager, you will provide high-level strategic communications advice to senior stakeholders, lead the delivery of complex communication projects and develop innovative communication solutions that support key departmental priorities. You will also mentor junior team members, manage workflows and build strong relationships across the department to maximise the impact of communication and engagement initiatives.
What You'll Be Doing:
Develop and implement strategic communication and engagement plans to support departmental projects and priorities;
Manage multiple communication projects and client portfolios, balancing competing priorities and deadlines;
Provide strategic communications advice and support to senior leaders and stakeholders;
Develop high-quality communication materials including campaign collateral, reports, briefing notes, presentations, Q&As;, media materials, newsletters, web content and social media;
Lead stakeholder engagement activities and provide advice on communication risks and mitigation strategies;
Mentor and support junior communications professionals, contributing to team leadership and workflow management;
Work collaboratively with engagement, communications, design, web and digital teams to deliver integrated communication solutions; and




Identify innovative opportunities to enhance communication and engagement across traditional and digital channels.
What You'll Bring:
Demonstrated experience working at a Principal or Senior Communications Officer level within a complex organisation;
Proven experience developing and delivering strategic communication and stakeholder engagement initiatives;
Exceptional writing, editing and content development skills across a broad range of communication products;
Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders;
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a quick-paced environment;
Experience leading, mentoring or coordinating communications professionals;
Strong analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking capabilities; and
Qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
