The Opportunity
The organisation is on the lookout for a detail-oriented payroll leader to sustain its growth and bolster its internal payroll and financial capabilities into a scalable, enterprise-grade function over the next twelve months. Located in Melbourne's Western Suburbs, with a adaptable 3-day hybrid arrangement, this Senior Payroll Specialist role remains a crucial operational pillar for the business.
Working closely with Finance and HR leadership, you will take full ownership of the standalone end-to-end payroll function covering 400 employees nationwide. We require a hands-on payroll professional who seamlessly executes weekly and monthly pay runs while bringing the sharp analytical eye needed to uplift control frameworks. What You'll Do
As Senior Payroll Specialist,



you will take complete ownership of daily payroll operations while elevating governance frameworks across our expanding business, ensuring zero disruption to weekly pay runs during this critical transition:
Execute full-cycle processing for 400 employees across weekly and monthly corporate pay schedules, managing varied worker groups including FIFO rosters, timesheet-based staff, casuals, and salaried corporate employees across multiple acquired business entities.
Partner directly with Finance and HR leadership to uplift payroll controls by establishing robust review frameworks, conducting thorough contract-to-system pay rate verification, and tightening bank ABA file reconciliations.
Maintain payroll software systems leveraging Employment Hero and ELMO frameworks, accurately managing complex FIFO Living Away From Home Allowances (LAFHA), leave entitlement calculations, and modern award interpretations.
Oversee end-of-month statutory obligations and reconciliations, including payroll tax calculations, superannuation contributions, general ledger payroll journal entries, and year-end Single Touch Payroll (STP) finalisations.
What You'll Bring
You will bring proven experience as a Senior Payroll Officer or Payroll Manager, showcasing an impressive track record successfully managing standalone payroll functions within growth minded, mid-sized business environments.
Demonstrated expertise running full-cycle standalone end-to-end payroll for dynamic workforce environments ********+ employees) with immediate availability or short notice.
Practical mastery handling complex payroll setups, including Employment Hero / ELMO platforms, FIFO allowances, timesheet calculations, casual loading, and EOM statutory obligations.
A strong analytical mindset with proven capability to audit payroll controls, rectify historical discrepancies, conduct contract checks, and uplift governance alongside finance leadership.
Adaptable, detail-oriented professional with the ability to step in with minimal handover and ability to be on-site in the Western Suburbs for hybrid office days.
