Senior Project Engineer | Defence Maritime

Tell me about this role:
We are seeking multiple experienced Maritime Engineers to support the delivery of critical Defence capability programs within Defence Maritime sustainment programs.
These roles sit at the intersection of engineering, acquisition, project delivery, capability introduction, and sustainment. You will play a key role in ensuring maritime capabilities are engineered, assured, certified, and transitioned into service safely and effectively. Working closely with Defence stakeholders, project teams, military units, and industry partners, you will provide technical leadership and engineering expertise across the capability lifecycle.
These opportunities will contribute to complex Defence projects, influence engineering outcomes, and support the successful introduction and sustainment of next-generation maritime capabilities.

What will I be doing day to day?
Provide engineering and technical advice across a portfolio of maritime capability projects
Support the acquisition, delivery, introduction into service, and transition into sustainment of maritime platforms and systems
Lead and manage engineering design, engineering change, and configuration management activities
Conduct engineering investigations, assessments, inspections, testing, and evaluation activities
Support design acceptance, engineering certification, and technical acceptance processes
Develop and review engineering plans, technical reports, safety cases,



certification documentation, and engineering recommendations
Assess capability readiness and support transition and introduction into service activities
Manage technical risks and provide practical engineering solutions to complex problems
Work collaboratively with Defence stakeholders, project managers, military units, logistics specialists, and industry partners
Participate in technical reviews, governance forums, acceptance testing, and engineering assurance activities
Ensure engineering outcomes comply with Defence standards, regulations, and technical governance requirements
Contribute to capability enhancements, upgrades, modifications, and continuous improvement initiatives
What sort of skills do I need?
Degree qualification in Engineering
Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) certification through Engineers Australia
Minimum 8+ years' Maritime Engineering experience supporting Defence acquisition, delivery, introduction into service, and sustainment programs
Strong Engineering Design experience within maritime, naval, amphibious, or military platform environments
Demonstrated experience supporting Defence acquisition and capability delivery programs
Proven experience supporting capability introduction into service (IIS) and transition into sustainment
Experience acting as a Design Acceptance Authority (DAA), Design Acceptance Representative (DAR), Engineering Delegate, Technical Authority, Chief Engineer, or equivalent delegated engineering authority
Strong understanding of engineering assurance, technical governance, certification,



and acceptance processes
Experience managing engineering change, configuration management, and technical risk activities
Ability to develop and review technical documentation, engineering artefacts, safety cases, and engineering reports
Experience working with Defence stakeholders including CASG, SPOs, Navy, Army, Defence Primes, or Defence industry organisations
Current Australian Government Security Clearance (Baseline, NV1 or NV2)
