Due to our current growth and recent project awards, we are seeking to recruit a Travel Lead to support our PNG operations. The role will be based at our Headquarters in Doncaster.
Reporting to the Operations Manager - PNG, you will be responsible for the strategic oversight and operational leadership of all domestic, international, and charter travel activities across complex, high-volume Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) project environments. The role ensures safe, compliant, and cost-effective workforce mobilisation and demobilisation for rostered and non-rostered personnel while maintaining strong service delivery standards and duty of care obligations.
The role requires strong team leadership skill to supervise a small team of geographically dispersed Travel Coordinators, as well as strong stakeholder engagement, decision making capability, and the ability to balance competing priorities in safety critical environments.
As a successful candidate, you will demonstrate the following:
Leading the travel function across multiple projects and remote locations. Travel Lead provides direction to travel coordination resources, manages forward travel planning aligned to project schedules, and acts as the primary escalation point for travel related risks, disruptions, and compliance matters.
Lead and role model a professional, proactive, and service-focused travel function across complex project environments.
Lead forward planning and look ahead reviews of complex project rosters to identify upcoming travel demand, constraints, and risk areas.
Provide oversight and escalation support for high volume, rostered, and critical path travel, including:
-Domestic, international, and charter flights including complex multi leg itineraries and remote location access.
- Ground transport requests and third-party shuttle transfer bookings.
- Hotel, camp, transit accommodation, including day use rooms where approved.
Ensure all travelers hold valid government issued identification, passports, visas, and project specific documentation prior to mobilisation.
Act as the primary interface and escalation point for project teams, operational support, client travel teams, and external providers.
Oversee travel related purchase orders, reconciliation, and cost allocation processes.
Lead the development and continuous improvement of travel processes, templates, guides, and communication tools.
What do you bring?
In addition to the above, we require an individual with;
Tertiary qualifications; relevant qualification in travel, business administration, people logistics, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 3 years demonstrated experience performing as a Travel Lead, or equivalent senior travel role, either project or operational support, within large, project-based environments, preferably in pipeline, energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, renewables, utilities, or comparable sectors.
Demonstrated experience supporting Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC)/ Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) or major construction projects, including complex workforce mobilisation, roster-based travel, and remote site access.
Significant experience coordinating and leading FIFO domestic and international travel in complex, high volume project environments. Knowledge and experience of PNG and related travel complexities is highly desirable.
Demonstrated experience overseeing and managing high-volume charter flights, including logistics for remote locations and camp accommodation.
Significant exposure overseeing client-driven travel requirements, approval frameworks, and compliance obligations.
Strong experience supporting project-based or operational workforces, including rostered personnel, site mobilisation, and demobilisation activities.
Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent travel priorities across changing schedules, remote locations, and tight operational deadlines.
Proven ability to lead a team to work effectively with cross-functional stakeholders, including project teams, operational support, finance, external travel providers, and client representatives.
Extensive experience overseeing accurate and auditable travel documentation, registers, and records in accordance with governance and compliance standards.
Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity when working across regions, countries, and diverse workforce groups.
Experience managing a team within high-risk or safety-critical environments, with a strong understanding of duty-of-care obligations and workforce wellbeing.
Experience using travel booking platforms and working with travel management companies (TMCs).
Strong capability using Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).
Experience overseeing workforce, compliance, and traveler management systems.
