About the role
We are seeking a
Principal / Senior Environmental Scientist
to join our expanding team in Brisbane. This is a full-time position based in Brisbane, offering the opportunity to lead significant environmental consulting projects and shape the strategic direction of our sustainability practice.
In this senior role, you will be responsible for overseeing complex environmental assessments and sustainability initiatives, providing expert guidance to clients, and mentoring junior team members. You will work on high-profile projects that require strategic thinking, technical expertise and strong stakeholder management. This role offers substantial scope for professional growth and the chance to influence environmental outcomes across multiple sectors.
Key responsibilities
Lead and manage principal or senior level environmental consulting projects from inception through completion, ensuring delivery of high-quality outcomes that meet client expectations and regulatory requirements
Provide expert environmental and sustainability advice to clients, translating complex technical information into strategic recommendations that support business decision-making
Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments, baseline studies and sustainability audits across a range of industries and project types
Develop and implement environmental management strategies, compliance frameworks and sustainability roadmaps tailored to client needs




Mentor and supervise junior scientists and consultants, fostering a culture of excellence and supporting their professional development
Manage client relationships at a senior level, serving as the primary point of contact for key accounts and building long-term partnerships
Stay current with environmental legislation, regulations and best practice standards, ensuring advice remains contemporary and compliant
Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing, tender responses and thought leadership initiatives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated consulting solutions that address environmental, social and governance considerations
What we're looking for
A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology or a related discipline, with relevant professional credentials or certifications
Minimum ***** years of post-qualification experience in environmental consulting or related field, with at least 5 years in a senior or principal-level role
Demonstrated expertise in environmental assessment, environmental management systems, sustainability strategy and regulatory compliance across multiple sectors
Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations applicable to Australia, including environmental impact assessment frameworks and planning requirements
Proven ability to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects and manage large client portfolios at a strategic level
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients, regulators and stakeholders at all levels
Strong business acumen and commercial awareness,



with experience in business development, client relationship management and project profitability
Demonstrated mentoring and leadership capability, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
Professional membership with an appropriate environmental or scientific body (such as AIEE, EA or equivalent) is highly desirable
Experience in sustainability consulting, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategy or corporate sustainability programs would be advantageous
