Nepean School, located in Seaford, is an innovative educational choice offering individualised learning for students with physical disabilities and complex health impairments. We currently have 136 students enrolled at Nepean School.
Our transdisciplinary teams work collaboratively with families to identify learning priorities, set goals and develop individualised learning plans for every student.
The transdisciplinary teams at Nepean consist of teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, registered nurses (RN1), and music therapists, who work together to design and implement engaging learning programs for all students.
These active partnerships ensure every child has the very best opportunity to reach their potential. Our transdisciplinary teams walk beside the student and their family on their learning journey, celebrating each achievement and success.
We provide comprehensive Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for students at all stages of learning, from level A through to VET programmes. Nepean School uses the Victorian Curriculum to develop learning experiences at each student's stage of learning. The Nepean School Goal Bank is also used to break down learning goals and identify supports the student may need to reach their goal. Our students have the opportunity to engage in learning across all curriculum areas including English, Mathematics, Information & Communication Technology, History, Geography, Personal & Social Learning, Health & PE, The Arts, Life Skills, Community Skills, Civics & Citizenship, Design Creativity and STEM programme (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths).

Selection Criteria
Demonstrated ability to effectively address the complex healthcare needs of students and proven competency and experience in paediatric clinical nursing assessment.
Demonstrated experience in effective record keeping, information management,



clinical assessment, and care planning.
Demonstrated ability in managing and maintaining high levels of confidentiality and professional conduct.
Demonstrated capacity to assume management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of services, with the ability to direct and supervise the work of other staff members.
Role
School nurses support the school in addressing contemporary health and social issues facing children and young people with a focus on health promotion and primary prevention including health education, classroom education sessions and small group education and limited primary health care including student assessment, referral and support. School Nurses works collaboratively with students, teachers, wellbeing staff, school leadership and school communities to build capacity and improve health outcomes.
Responsibilities
Implement nursing interventions including referral as appropriate via the child's parent or guardian to health professionals/agencies
Provide a follow-up service, which ensures children with health-related problems receive appropriate assistance
Carry out health promotion/education within program guidelines and act as a health resource to the school community
Act as an advocate for children and promote child health as a member of a transdisciplinary team, liaising effectively with parents, teachers, health, welfare and education personnel
Observe safe working practices and protect own and others health and safety
Use initiative and judgement to select and apply established procedures and practices to unusual or complex nursing issues in the school environment.
Work as part of the school community, particularly the school welfare team, to effectively promote a broad social view of health.
Communicate with a range of people in the school environment, the family and other service providers, promoting knowledge of and facilitating collaborative links between young people, families, the school community, relevant primary health care services and relevant community-based organisations.
Maintain accurate and timely records of clinical activity for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation purposes as required.

This is a 2 day per week position working Wednesday and Friday from 8.30am to 4.36pm
