About the role
We are seeking a talented
Mechanical Designer
to join our engineering team at Bright Metal Forms PTY Ltd, located in Wetherill Park, NSW. This is a
full-time position
that offers an exciting opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design projects from concept through to manufacture. As a Mechanical Designer, you will play a critical role in translating customer requirements and engineering concepts into detailed technical drawings and specifications that guide our manufacturing processes. Your work will directly impact the quality, functionality, and manufacturability of our products, making this a strategically important role within our organisation.
Key responsibilities
Develop detailed mechanical designs and engineering drawings using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards and manufacturing requirements
Collaborate with clients, project managers,
and manufacturing teams to understand project requirements and translate them into comprehensive design specifications
Create technical documentation, including assembly drawings, component specifications, and material schedules
Perform design analysis and calculations to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and feasibility of mechanical components
Review and optimise designs for manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and performance optimisation
Communicate design concepts and modifications clearly to stakeholders and production teams
Maintain accurate design records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Provide technical support during manufacturing and implementation phases, troubleshooting design-related issues as they arise
Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and updates to relevant engineering standards
What we're looking for
Formal qualification in mechanical engineering, engineering design, or a related discipline
Proficiency with CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or equivalent), with the ability to produce detailed technical drawings
Demonstrated experience in mechanical design, with a solid understanding of design principles, material properties,
and manufacturing processes
Strong knowledge of engineering standards and drawing conventions (ISO, AS/NZS standards)
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in technical documentation
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously whilst meeting deadlines
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think creatively and propose innovative design solutions
Experience in metal forming, manufacturing, or precision engineering is highly desirable
Knowledge of GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is advantageous
