Skillfield is a specialist technology consultancy operating at the intersection of cyber, data and AI. We partner with enterprise clients to protect, transform and empower their organisations with forward‐thinking solutions. Our reputation is built on outcomes, not effort.
The Opportunity
Contract: 1 year, with potential to extend
Hybrid, Melbourne
We are looking for an AI Security Architect to design and guide secure, AI driven solutions that deliver practical business value. This role bridges business needs and technical delivery, shaping how AI is applied across client environments - with security, governance and enterprise standards built in from the ground up.
You will work closely with stakeholders, BAs and engineering teams to translate complex AI capabilities into clear, security solution designs. You will also provide direction on platform choices, architecture patterns and emerging technologies, while supporting teams throughout delivery.
What you'll do
Design AI-enabled solutions balancing business, technical, and security requirements
Develop solution specifications aligned to enterprise standards and security frameworks
Weigh trade-offs across performance, scalability, security and cost, and make a call
Prototyping & Evaluation
Rapidly test AI tools, platforms and patterns — including their security posture — and bring evidence, not opinion, to the recommendation
Track emerging AI capabilities and risks, including agent-based architectures
Advisory & Delivery
Translate complex AI and security concepts for technical and non-technical audiences alike
Work alongside business and delivery teams so solutions are both feasible and secure
Be the go-to person for solution clarification and escalation during delivery
Governance & Risk
Apply responsible AI principles (fairness, explainability,

privacy by design) in production, not just on paper
Identify AI-specific security risks — model, data, identity exposure — and propose mitigations that actually ship
Contribute to design reviews and keep solutions aligned to architecture and governance standards
Planning & Costing
Build cost estimates across model usage, infrastructure and operations
Assess how design changes ripple into security posture and delivery timelines
Feed into the broader AI technology and security roadmap
What you'll bring
Experience designing secure AI/ML solutions in cloud environments (AWS preferred; Azure/GCP awareness fine)
A security architecture background — governance, policy-as-code (e.g. OPA), DevSecOps, ideally in a large or regulated enterprise
Hands-on work with LLMs, RAG, prompt design and orchestration patterns
A practical grip on AI/agentic security — identity, access control, data isolation, model risk
Comfort operating within existing enterprise architecture standards, working alongside a Lead Architect — this isn't a role for someone who only wants to set their own rules
Strong prototyping instincts, with the discipline to turn findings into clear architectural decisions
Working knowledge of responsible AI principles in real systems
Why this role
Genuine design authority on how AI gets secured across client environments — not a downstream implementer role
Work alongside an established Lead Architect and governance function, not from scratch
Direct line of sight into cutting‐edge AI security problems most architects don't get near yet
Be part of a team reliable about doing work that mattersJoin a culture that values clarity, autonomy and shared successEnjoy flexibility, support and performance‐based recognition
Ready to make a measurable impact?
