About the Role
We're looking for a motivated and capable In-House Lawyer to join our team and help support animal welfare outcomes across Western Australia.
Reporting to the Senior In-House Lawyer, you'll provide legal advice, prosecutorial support and litigation management across a range of animal welfare, compliance and enforcement matters.
Working closely with our Inspectors and external pro bono legal panel, you'll play a key role in matters arising under the Animal Welfare Act **** while contributing to the delivery of high-quality legal services across the organisation.
This is a full-time position (38 hours per week) based in Malaga, with occasional travel required.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal advice and support to Inspectors throughout investigations, prosecutions and civil forfeiture proceedings under the Animal Welfare Act ****.
Assist with the preparation of prosecution briefs, court documentation and case files.
Prepare, file and manage prosecutions and civil forfeiture applications in the Magistrates Court.
Manage litigation matters and appear in court on behalf of Inspectors where required.
Build and maintain strong relationships with our external pro bono legal panel,



including briefing lawyers, allocating matters and coordinating legal representation.
Support the Senior In-House Lawyer in providing legal advice to the Executive, Board, managers and staff on animal welfare, compliance, governance, corporate and contractual matters.
About You
To be successful in this role, you'll bring strong legal skills, sound judgement and a genuine interest in contributing to animal welfare outcomes.
Essential
Law degree.
Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience (PQE).
Understanding and familiarity of criminal law and practice, and the laws of evidence in WA.
Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
Desirable
Current practising certificate in Western Australia.
Experience working with investigators and assessing prosecution or investigation files.
A current driver's licence, police clearance, and full Australian working rights are required.
