About the role Flagship Pioneering, Inc. is looking for a highly skilled and motivated Sr. Director of Program Management and Business Operations. This position will report directly to the President & CFO and is ideal for a leader with extensive experience in guiding research and early drug development teams from initial research phases through clinical trials. The successful candidate will be part of the Leadership Team and will act as Chief of Staff, ensuring effective collaboration and alignment on key initiatives to achieve organizational objectives.

What you'll do
Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer to oversee the program team for the lead project, AP003, as well as future initiatives, fostering a culture of scientific rigor and teamwork.
Guide program teams in defining scientific questions, strategies, and objectives, translating these into actionable deliverables, timelines, and budgets.
Identify potential bottlenecks and risks, and proactively devise mitigation strategies with input from team members.
Ensure that all critical decisions are evaluated for their impact, and develop alternative scenarios when necessary.
Work alongside finance and functional teams to create operational plans that support program activities, monitoring performance against these plans.
Facilitate collaboration among various functional teams and the Leadership Team on program-related issues.
Serve as the primary communicator for program-related matters, ensuring management is informed of strategy, updates, and issues.
Act as the main point of contact for alliance management and coordination as required.
Manage strategic or platform development projects and collaborate with the Chief Scientific Officer and Research Leadership Team for quarterly business review meetings.
Operations
Partner with the Leadership Team to develop strategic plans, company objectives, and portfolio-level analyses to support business processes.
Create and deliver impactful presentations that distill complex issues into essential points, enhancing understanding and strategic decision-making.
Prepare strategic communications that align with business strategies and issues, maintaining relevant content for executive communications.
Lead the Scientific Communications process in collaboration with the Scientific Communications Committee.
Organize schedules, agendas, and content for Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and Town Hall meetings.
Identify opportunities for organizational improvements in team structure, processes, and communication.
Other
Assist the CEO and Leadership Team with partnership discussions and negotiations, including background research and presentation preparation.
Analyze the competitive landscape to identify potential threats and opportunities.
Foster strategic discussions on external trends and competitor strategies, translating insights into actionable recommendations.
Gather intelligence from diverse sources, including literature reviews and interactions with key opinion leaders and patient groups.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific field, preferably in life sciences or chemistry.
A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech drug discovery and development, with a solid understanding of both preclinical and clinical phases.
At least 10 years of experience in Program Management, ideally within early-stage drug discovery and development.
Experience in developing advanced therapies for rare genetic diseases is advantageous.
Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A scientific curiosity and commitment to discovering innovative therapies.
Willingness to adopt new technologies and digital methods in drug discovery.
A successful history of driving collaborative drug discovery teams.
Salary and benefits
The salary for this position ranges from $213,000 to $280,500. Compensation will vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
