ABOUT THE POSITION
Cranbrook School is seeking an exceptional educational leader to lead our English Department from the commencement of Term 1, ****. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Head of English or an accomplished Assistant Head of Department seeking to lead one of Australia's leading independent school English departments during an exciting period in the School's history.
As Cranbrook continues its transition to full coeducation and builds upon its tradition of academic excellence, the Head of Department, English will play a central role in shaping curriculum, teaching excellence and student achievement across both the NSW Higher School Certificate and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
The Head of Department provides strategic and educational leadership to the Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement. The successful applicant will lead curriculum development, support outstanding classroom practice, mentor and develop staff, oversee departmental operations and manage the Department's budget. The role is responsible for the leadership of both the HSC and IB Diploma English programmes and offers the prospect to contribute meaningfully to the broader academic life and strategic direction of the School.

This is a full-time position based at the Senior School campus in Bellevue Hill. The position will be offered as a permanent appointment to the teaching staff, together with a five-year leadership appointment as Head of Department, English.

SELECTION CRITERIA
NESA accreditation to teach in New South Wales (required)
Sound knowledge and understanding of both the NSW Curriculum and the IB MYP and Diploma frameworks
Knowledge of evidence – reformed pedagogics to positively impact student learning outcomes
Experience leading a team of teachers
Capacity to create a motivating and engaging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of all learners through varied teaching strategies and pedagogical practices to maximise learning
Experience with a range of online platforms, including Learning Management Systems, to support learning and provide feedback
Creative mindset and ability to design interactive and dynamic lessons
Organisational skills to manage schedules, events and student records




A level of mobility that supports the ability to respond to a first aid / behavioural incident
Strong physical, mental and emotional health to deal with the required demands and responsibilities of the role
Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
A demonstrated understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK AND WORKING RIGHTS
The successful applicant for this position will be required to hold a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance. Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a visa with appropriate working rights.
