Smartgroup

Sydney

Look forward to working with Australia's leading and most trusted provider of Employee Management Services, making the benefits of salary packaging, novated leasing, and fleet management readily available to employers and their employees.
Working at Smartgroup offers more than a job. It is a energetic workplace that matches the enthusiasm for the work you do and ambition for an exciting fast-paced career. We have all been hired for a purpose and a reason.
Every day you will be part of a team that helps support fellow Australians - many working in essential services, corporates, government, and not-for-profits - to take home more money in their pay packets.
About the Opportunity
Nine months. One ASX-listed group. Every part of the accounting cycle.
Most financial accounting roles give you a slice of the picture. This one hands you the whole thing. Joining our Financial Control & Reporting team on a 9-month fixed-term contract, you'll move across transactional finance, reconciliations, month-end close, consolidation, statutory reporting, tax and external audit - the full lifecycle, in a listed environment, with real deadlines and real visibility.
You'll see your numbers land where they matter. The commentary you draft is read by the Executive Leadership Team. The packs you help build go to the Board and the Audit & Risk Committee. The reconciliations you own underpin our results.
You'll sit alongside experienced finance leaders who are genuinely invested in developing people, in a team that is actively simplifying and automating how work gets done - so you'll be encouraged to question the process, not just complete it.
It's a role for someone who wants to compress a few years of listed-company exposure into nine months, build a network across the group, and finish the contract with a materially stronger CV. For many people, that's exactly the accelerator they are looking for.
What you'll be doing:
Support the end-to-end accounting cycle,

from transactional processing and reconciliations through to month-end close, reporting and audit.
Process payments, invoices, refunds and journals accurately, and help keep AP, AR, bank and balance sheet reconciliations up to date.
Prepare month-end reports, variance analysis and commentary for management, Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
Assist with group consolidation, statutory reporting, tax calculations, external reporting obligations and audit workpapers.
Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to resolve issues, explain results and improve processes, controls and efficiency.
What you bring:
Previous experience (3+ years) in a public practice firm or corporate finance environment, with exposure to financial accounting and reporting.
Working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB), statutory reporting obligations, and financial controls.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and a proactive approach.
Intermediate Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems and reporting tools.
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Commerce or Business. CA or CPA qualified, or currently working towards completion.
A little more...
An ASX-listed group with national reach and a finance function that is visible, valued and involved in the decisions that matter.
Direct access to experienced finance leaders and hands-on exposure to Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
Hybrid working and a modern Sydney CBD office.

A team culture built on collaboration, curiosity and doing the right thing - with a genuine focus on development, not just delivery.
What's in it for you?
Smart team members enjoy a range of benefits designed to support flexibility, wellbeing, reward, and growth:
Smart Leave, an additional week of leave each year
Free lunch every week
Up to 20 weeks Paid Parental Leave with superannuation contributions and a Return-to-Work Bonus
