With over 15 years of industry expertise, the company supports critical infrastructure projects across data centres, mining, renewable energy, utilities, commercial and industrial facilities, and transport infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of protection engineering projects including data centre switchgear systems, substations, transmission and distribution networks, and industrial power infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
Analyse and interpret existing and emerging engineering technologies related to protection philosophies, single-line diagrams, and relay schematics for power system protection.
Apply technological advancements in the design, configuration, and application of protection relays and schemes.
Assist engineers in designing and developing protection schemes for electrical systems, including transformers, feeders and generators.
Configure, program, and set protection relays in accordance with coordination studies.
Perform protection coordination and grading studies to ensure selectivity and reliability of the protection system.
Troubleshoot and diagnose protection relay malfunctions, mis-operations, and scheme design issues.
Recommend modifications and improvements to protection schemes based on technical evaluations and fault analysis.
Review relay settings and protection schemes for compliance with utility, regulatory, and industry standards.




Assist in the commissioning and functional testing of protection schemes, ensuring correct relay operation and system integration.
Collaborate with testing and commissioning technologists, engineers, and technicians to integrate recent protection technologies into ongoing projects.
Identify and investigate protection system failures, trips, and abnormalities, recommending corrective actions.
Perform periodic reviews and updates of protection settings to reflect system changes and load growth across client networks.
Ensure protection system designs comply with regulatory requirements, grid codes, and industry standards.
Monitor and enforce safety measures related to protection system design, settings changes, and implementation.
Prepare technical reports, protection setting sheets, coordination studies, and documentation for projects and system modifications.
Maintain accurate records of relay settings, coordination studies, protection scheme changes, and test results.
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
Minimum 1 year of relevant industry experience in protection systems, testing, commissioning, or electrical infrastructure projects
Knowledge of HV/MV protection systems, protection relay testing, and commissioning practices
Familiarity with protection coordination, SCADA integration, and fault diagnosis within electrical networks
Experience using engineering and protection software such as ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory, or similar systems
Understanding of AS/NZS standards, WHS legislation, and electrical safety procedures
Strong analytical, technical troubleshooting, and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams
Willingness to travel to project sites as required
