Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.
We advocate for cultural heritage, land management, and community empowerment across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, and the Bass Coast, ensuring the voices and traditions of our ancestors continue to be recognised, respected, and protected.
About the Role
BLCAC is seeking a committed and community-minded Strong Country Ranger (Western Team) to support the ongoing care and management of Bunurong Country.
Working under the direction of the Strong Country Ranger Team Leader (Western Team), this hands‐on field roles contribute to the care, protection and restoration of Country through activities including cultural and ecological fire management, pest and invasive species control, wildlife conservation, bushland regeneration and revegetation.
This role is based in the western part of Bunurong Country, where agriculture and urban development pose a significant threat to cultural and ecological values, particularly the grassland ecosystems of the Victorian Volcanic Plains, of which less than 1% remains.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in on-Country activities including fire management, pest and weed control,



wildlife conservation, bushland regeneration and revegetation in threatened grassland and coastal ecosystems.
Assist with the planning and delivery of cultural burning and ecological fire management practices.
Support pest and invasive species control programs, including monitoring and management activities.
Contribute to wildlife monitoring and habitat restoration projects.
Safely operate, maintain and care for tools, vehicles and equipment.
Follow direction from Team Leaders to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Comply with BLCAC policies, procedures and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
Engage respectfully with community members, partner organisations and stakeholders when required.
What You Bring
Qualifications and Experience
Aboriginality in mandatory (Bunurong Nation is desirable).
Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
AgVet Chemical User Permit (or willingness to obtain).
Chainsaw Licence (desirable).
4x4 driving experience (desirable).
Basic computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office).
Grassland and Coastal plant identification skills, or willingness to learn.
Experience using GPS, maps and navigation tools, or willingness to learn.
Experience or interest in land management, fire management, pest control or wildlife conservation.
Clear Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
Personal Qualities and Attributes
Strong cultural awareness and understanding of caring for Country.




Passionate about learning, commitment to working outdoors across changing weather and environmental environments and contributing to meaningful cultural and environmental outcomes.
Keen to learn and apply a range of land management skills and practices.
Ability to work cooperatively within a team and take direction from Team Leaders
Adaptable, reliable, and able to manage physically demanding fieldwork.
Respectful communicator who engages well with community and partners.
Safety-conscious with an understanding of OHS practices.
