Our client, a prestigious Barristers Chambers located in Melbourne's CBD, is seeking an experienced
Office Manager
to join their team on a part-time, flexible basis. This is a broad and varied role that blends facilities management, member services, board support, and finance, all within a professional legal environment that demands discretion, accuracy, and a high standard of presentation at all times.
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice or office manager to take ownership of the day-to-day running of a well-regarded Chambers, working closely with members, the Board, and front-of-house staff.
Key responsibilities include
Member & Onboarding Management
End-to-end coordination of the new member process, including membership agreements, fee collection, and structured inductions
Maintaining accurate member records and databases
Managing membership renewals, fee schedules, and agreement variations
Acting as first point of contact for member queries
Offboarding departing members, including final reconciliations
Facilities & Office Operations
Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Chambers, including communal, meeting, and shared workspace areas
Managing room bookings, meeting space setups, and AV requirements
Coordinating with external contractors, building management, and service providers for maintenance, cleaning, security, and fit-out or repair works




Managing office supplies, equipment, and vendor relationships
Ensuring the physical environment consistently reflects the standard of the Chambers
Events Coordination
Planning and coordinating Chambers events, including member functions, professional development sessions, and Board-related events
Managing invitations, RSVPs, and event logistics end-to-end
Board & Director Support
Taking and distributing accurate minutes at Board meetings
Providing ad hoc administrative support to Directors, including diary management and document preparation
Assisting with the preparation of Board papers and reports
Supporting governance and compliance requirements
Finance & Accounting Support
Collecting and receipting membership fees and other Chambers income
Assisting with accounts payable and receivable functions
Liaising with the external accountant or bookkeeper
Monthly reconciliations, expense tracking, and budget reporting support
Issuing invoices and following up on outstanding payments
People Management
Direct line management of the Receptionist, including day-to-day oversight and scheduling
Supporting a positive, professional front-of-house culture
Background & Experience The ideal candidate will bring proven experience in an Office Manager or Practice Manager role,



ideally gained within a professional services, legal, or membership-based environment. Strong accounting and bookkeeping skills are essential, along with hands‐on experience in facilities management.
You'll be comfortable operating at both an operational and senior stakeholder level, with the confidence to support a Board and the warmth to build genuine relationships across a diverse membership. Exposure to finance and accounts functions, facilities oversight, and people leadership will be highly regarded, as will a natural ability to manage competing priorities with discretion, composure, and strong attention to detail.
Experience, Technical Requirements & Qualifications
Office management and bookkeeping/accounting experience
Experience in a legal office environment (desirable)
Extensive use of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Mac Mail, printer drivers, Teams, OneDrive, Dropbox, and online banking
Comfortable learning new software applications (e.g., for coordination with Company accountants)
Must be willing and able to undergo VicPol and AFP police checks
Skills & Attributes
Solid bookkeeping and financial administration experience (essential)
Experience liaising with external accountants/auditors
Highly organised with strong attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities
Experience supporting governance or committee structures (desirable)
Proven people leadership capability
Professional, proactive, and service-oriented approach
Compensation $100,000 - $120,000 AUD (pro rata for part-time hours)
