St Vincent's Health Australia is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer / Systems Engineer to join our Infrastructure Operations team, supporting the stability, security, and performance of enterprise infrastructure across clinical, corporate, and research environments.
This is a hands‐on technical role suited to experienced engineers who thrive in complex environments and are passionate about automation, cyber resilience, and high‐availability systems.
About the role
You will play a key role in maintaining and evolving SVHA's core infrastructure platforms across Windows, Linux, virtualisation, storage, and hybrid cloud environments.
In this role you will:
Lead or contribute to system design, implementation, and optimisation
Provide advanced operational support and incident resolution
Take ownership of infrastructure platforms across the full lifecycle (design, operate, optimise, retire)
The role also contributes to enterprise projects and works closely with cybersecurity, networking, and application teams to deliver integrated, resilient solutions.
Key responsibilities
Maintain and optimise Windows, Linux, VMware, and hybrid cloud, plus core services (Active Directory, Exchange, DNS, DHCP, file, certificates)
Run patching, vulnerability remediation, and audit readiness with the Cybersecurity team
Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity strategy and testing
Use automation and scripting to reduce manual effort and repetitive work
Maintain monitoring and alerting to keep systems healthy and available
Operate within ITIL-aligned incident, change, and problem management,
and act as an escalation point for major incidents
What you will bring
Substantial hands‐on experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering
Deep capability across Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Exchange
Backup and recovery (e.g. Cohesity), monitoring, and scripting (PowerShell, Bash)
Proven troubleshooting across physical and virtual environments
Strong grasp of security controls, patching, and vulnerability management
ITSM and ITIL-aligned experience
Highly regarded Azure or hybrid cloud exposure
Healthcare or other highly regulated, 24/7 environments
Certifications: Microsoft (AZ-104, AZ-*******), VMware (VCP-DCV), ITIL v4, Linux (RHCSA)

Location & working arrangements
Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane with hybrid working (minimum 3 days on‐site).
Participation in an on‐call roster and some out‐of‐hours work is expected.
