As an Origination Associate, you will be instrumental in merging biology and technology, where your curiosity and creativity will help transform ambitious concepts into reality. In this position, you will research and refine new venture ideas, develop scientific strategies and business cases, and co-lead the formation of new companies from their inception. You will be deeply involved in all aspects of venture creation, from identifying key scientific collaborators to establishing foundational intellectual property and cultivating the early team culture. Collaboration with various stakeholders within the Flagship ecosystem will be essential as you utilize our collective expertise to enhance company development.

What you'll do
Identify and explore new opportunities in biology and technology that could lead to the creation of new markets and industries.
Develop and test bold venture ideas through rapid experimentation and rigorous evaluation of assumptions.
Assist in transforming initial concepts into detailed venture plans, including technical frameworks, experimental designs, and market entry strategies.




Directly contribute to the launch of high-potential ventures, playing an active role in their foundational stages.
Collaborate with scientists, product developers, and entrepreneurs to integrate technical insights with market opportunities.
Distill complex information into clear, actionable insights to support the venture creation process at Flagship.
Stay informed about emerging scientific developments, applying creativity and critical thinking to overlooked areas.
Requirements
An advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in a scientific discipline, particularly in biology, bioengineering, chemistry, or related fields. Diverse academic backgrounds are encouraged.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in research, technology, startups, or similar environments that require analytical and creative problem‐solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to quickly understand new scientific areas and engage with thought leaders at a high level.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of creating compelling narratives and presentations.
Excellent analytical abilities, with a knack for synthesizing and conveying complex information clearly and efficiently.

A strong sense of urgency and commitment to achieving success.
A genuine interest in personal growth and development, with a history of being receptive to feedback and acting on it.

Location: Cambridge, MA. This is a full‐time, on‐site position.
Practical notes
The salary range for this role is $155,000 - $190,000.
Compensation will be influenced by various factors, including the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
