What you'll do
Develop and implement machine learning models aimed at enhancing content generation and assessing quality within Canva's extensive element and template library.
Oversee the complete machine learning lifecycle, which includes creating data pipelines, training models, deploying them, and continuously monitoring their performance.
Work in tandem with various internal teams to ensure that technical outputs are in harmony with the overarching content strategy.
Identify and resolve issues related to the reliability of production systems, data integrity, and the performance of models.
Conduct experiments to test and validate methods prior to scaling, utilizing well-defined success metrics to guide your efforts.
Set engineering standards and create internal tools that enhance development speed and reliability across the team.
Communicate technical trade-offs effectively to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding.




Participate in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning and AI technologies, integrating relevant findings into your work.
Collaborate with product managers to define project scopes and timelines, ensuring that deliverables meet user needs and expectations.
Contribute to the documentation of processes and systems to promote knowledge sharing and best practices within the organization.
Requirements
Demonstrated experience in constructing and deploying machine learning systems in production settings.
Proven ability to manage problems from their initial identification through to the maintenance of live systems.
Strong understanding of the practical trade-offs between model quality, latency, and operational costs.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and content development.
Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in machine learning, such as Python or R.
Familiarity with cloud platforms and tools for deploying machine learning models, such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
