Box Advisory Services is a boutique Sydney-based accounting and advisory firm, founded in ****, with a team of around 40 across Sydney and offshore. We help SME clients across tax, compliance, CFO/virtual CFO advisory, property structuring, and bookkeeping. As we scale, we're bringing IT operations in-house and building the internal function that will support the firm through its next phase of growth.
About the role
We're transitioning away from our external MSP and need someone to own IT operations end to end for a ~50-endpoint Microsoft 365 environment. This is a hands-on role covering identity, endpoints, security, backup, cloud, telephony, vendor management, and end-user support — effectively absorbing our MSP's full scope, plus the strategic ownership that comes with being an internal hire.
You'll be the firm's sole IT point of contact, working closely with leadership to validate, document, and improve our environment as we move off external support.
Key responsibilities
Microsoft 365, identity & endpoints
Administer Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams; own user lifecycle, conditional access, MFA, and group/role management
Run the Intune and Autopilot estate across ~50 endpoints: enrolment, compliance, configuration profiles,
app deployment, and Windows Update rings
Manage joiner-mover-leaver processes end to end, including device provisioning, retirement, and data preservation
Security & backup
Operate our security stack (EDR, email security, Microsoft Defender); triage alerts, investigate incidents, and drive remediation
Own backup posture across Microsoft 365 and infrastructure; monitor jobs, test restores, and maintain a documented DR/BCP plan
Maintain security documentation aligned to the Essential Eight (or equivalent); support audit and compliance requests
Cloud, network & telephony
Administer existing Azure and/or AWS workloads: IAM, networking, monitoring, cost, and security baselines
Maintain office network and Wi-Fi; coordinate ISP and carrier issues
Administer our cloud PBX/VoIP platform (Teams Phone or equivalent): users, call routing, numbers, and vendor liaison
Support, vendors & governance
Act as the IT point of contact for staff, with clear SLAs and ticket hygiene; maintain a lightweight internal knowledge base
Manage IT vendors and resellers (Microsoft CSP, hardware, security, SaaS); maintain a single licence register, manage renewals, and benchmark spend
Maintain core IT documentation: network diagrams, runbooks, asset register, and internal policies
Report monthly on tickets, security posture,
backup health, and spend
What you'll bring
Required
3+ years hands-on experience in IT operations, sysadmin, or MSP engineering in a Microsoft-centric setting
Production experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune/Autopilot, and Defender (or equivalent EDR/email security)
Working knowledge of Azure or AWS at an operational level (IAM, networking, cost, monitoring)
Solid networking fundamentals, backup operations, and vendor/license management experience
Strong written communication and a service mindset — comfortable being the sole IT point of contact
Full Australian working rights, and able to be on-site in our Sydney office as required
Highly regarded
Prior MSP experience across multiple SME clients
Microsoft certifications (MS-102, AZ-104, SC-200, MD-102) or AWS equivalents
PowerShell scripting for routine automation
Experience standing up an internal IT function while transitioning away from an external MSP
Familiarity with the Essential Eight, ISO *****, or SOC 2
What success looks like in your first 90 days
Full handover from the outgoing MSP completed and documented
Tenant, endpoint, and security baselines validated, with any gaps closed
Backup and restore testing running on a documented schedule
Licence register cleaned up and the next renewal cycle optimised
What we offer
Salary range - $95,000 - $110,000 + super, depending on experience
The opportunity to build an internal IT function from the ground up, with real ownership and autonomy
A close-knit, growing firm where your work has direct visibility with leadership
