About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Energy Markets Analyst to join a growing commercial energy markets team supporting a portfolio of utility-scale renewable generation and battery storage assets.
This role sits at the intersection of wholesale electricity markets, quantitative analysis, and commercial optimisation. Working closely with trading, commercial, and development teams, you will support bidding strategies, battery optimisation, market forecasting, and portfolio performance analysis across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
The team is particularly interested in candidates with strong coding and quantitative modelling capabilities, combined with hands‐on experience in wholesale electricity markets.
Key Responsibilities
Provide market analysis and strategic insights across the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Support commercial decision‐making for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery storage assets.
Develop market forecasts, scenario analysis, and optimisation models to support trading and investment decisions.
Analyse battery performance, renewable asset performance, and market outcomes.
Extract, manipulate, and interpret large datasets from AEMO MMS and other market sources.
Build dashboards and reporting tools to monitor operational and commercial performance.
Develop and maintain analytical tools using Excel, VBA/macros, Python, SQL, or similar technologies.
Support bidding strategy development and operational decision‐making for renewable and battery assets.
Monitor market trends, policy changes, transmission constraints, pricing dynamics, and regulatory developments.
Ideal Background
5+ years' experience within the Australian wholesale electricity market.
Robust understanding of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and AEMO market operations.
Hands‐on experience working with AEMO MMS data and large market datasets.
Strong coding capability using Python, SQL, R, or similar programming languages.
Quantitative modelling experience covering forecasting, optimisation, statistical analysis, or market simulation.
Experience supporting battery energy storage systems (BESS), renewable generation, trading operations, or energy market analytics.
Advanced Excel skills, including VBA/macros and automation.
Experience with Power BI or other data visualisation platforms.
Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem‐solving skills.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across trading, commercial, and technical teams.
Highly Regarded
Experience developing optimisation or dispatch models.
Knowledge of battery revenue optimisation, FCAS markets, bidding strategies, and renewable portfolio analytics.
Experience with PLEXOS, Nempy, machine learning, or other quantitative modelling tools.
Exposure to transmission constraints, interconnector flows, forecasting, and market scenario analysis.
Qualifications
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.

The key focus for this position is finding someone with strong coding and quantitative modelling skills who can apply those capabilities to wholesale energy markets, renewable generation, and battery storage optimisation.
