Our client is a Brisbane based technology business with a genuinely national footprint.
Its software supports the day to day operations of businesses across the country, built on decades of engineering pedigree and a stable ownership structure that gives it room to invest for the long term.
The leadership team is done moving slowly.
New systems, a rebuilt financial model and a real appetite for people who challenge the numbers rather than simply report them.
The Role
This is a newly created role, built to give the Head of Finance and the CFO their time back.
Right now they are carrying the budget and the long-term model themselves, and it is time to hand it to someone who can own it properly.
You will own the budget, the monthly re-forecast and a ten year scenario model, already built and due for more granularity as the business sharpens its understanding of its own cost drivers.
Reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the CFO and other C Suite key business stakeholders, this is a forward looking seat with real decision making impact.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
Owning and maintaining the annual budget process, working directly with department heads across the business
Leading a genuine monthly re-forecast cycle, refining the accuracy of assumptions as new information lands
Extending and refining an existing ten year scenario model, adding granularity on cost to serve and R&D; investment
Business partnering across the organisation's technical and delivery teams, not just the finance function
Building dashboards and reporting tools that give leaders real visibility over performance and risk
Translating financial data into commentary that non-finance stakeholders can actually act on
Working alongside an incoming ERP implementation,
determining what moves into the recent system and what stays in Excel
Challenging assumptions rather than simply accepting them, asking what else moves when one number changes
Supporting scenario planning and workforce cost modelling as the business plans its next chapter
About You
You are commercially curious
Given an instruction to add more revenue into a forecast, your instinct is to ask what expenses move with it, not simply plug in the number
You are comfortable in Excel at an advanced level and genuinely interested in systems and data, and you can write clearly enough to turn a set of numbers into a story a non-finance leader will actually read
You want ownership rather than direction, and you are ready to be the person who builds the model, not just maintains it
Skills & Experience
Demonstrated experience in FP&A;, commercial finance, management reporting or a comparable forward looking finance role
Advanced Excel skills, with genuine comfort building and maintaining complex financial models
CA, CPA or equivalent qualification, or well progressed towards one
Experience business partnering with non-finance stakeholders, translating numbers into decisions
Exposure to ERP systems and reporting tools such as Power BI will be well regarded, though not essential
Experience moving from a Big Four transactional services or corporate finance background into an industry
FP&A; seat will also be well regarded
What's On Offer
A genuinely forward looking mandate, with real scope to shape the model and the process behind it
Hybrid working, three days in the office and two from home, with flexible start and finish times built on trust
A competitive package reflective of experience, plus superannuation
Stability backed by a resilient shareholder, in a business investing in its own future
