The opportunity
Caruso & Co Legal is a leading independent South Australian law firm with more than 40 years of continuous practice.
We act for prominent businesses, property owners, investors, developers and private clients, providing pragmatic and commercially focused advice across property, leasing, commercial transactions, banking and finance, disputes, and private client matters.
At an important stage in the firm's growth, we are seeking an experienced Property and Leasing Lawyer to become a key member of our commercial practice.
This is a substantive appointment.
You will have real carriage of matters, direct relationships with clients and referrers, and a meaningful role in the development of the practice.
You will be expected to exercise judgment - not simply follow process.
The work
You will manage a varied portfolio of commercial property and leasing matters, including:
Drafting and negotiating commercial and retail leases, agreements for lease, renewals, extensions, assignments and variations.
Advising landlords and tenants on their rights, obligations, risks and commercial options.
Managing commercial property acquisitions and disposals, including contract preparation and review, due diligence and settlement.
Preparing and reviewing disclosure statements and associated leasing documentation.
Conducting electronic conveyancing and settlements through PEXA.
Advising on easements, caveats, mortgages and other property interests.




Working with colleagues across the firm's commercial, business, disputes and estate-planning practices where matters intersect.
What you will bring
We are interested in capability and judgment, not a perfect checklist.
You will, however, be:
Admitted to practice in South Australia, with at least three years' post-admission experience.
Experienced in commercial and retail leasing and, ideally, broader commercial property work.
A precise drafter and confident negotiator who understands both legal risk and commercial outcome.
Able to give advice that is clear, practical and appropriately decisive.
Comfortable taking ownership of files and client relationships with appropriate autonomy.
Organised, responsive and exacting about the standard of your work.
Team-oriented in approach, with the confidence to mentor junior lawyers, clerks and support staff.
Interested in developing enduring client and referral relationships and contributing to the growth of the firm.
