We are committed to empowering futures, ensuring rights and enriching lives. We support people to have safe, secure and well-paid work with the skills for a sustainable future as we ourselves strive to be a model employer.
We provide the framework for fair and productive relationships between employers and employees. We also oversee skills development and training initiatives to support those entering the workforce or re-training to take advantage of emerging employment opportunities.
With us, your work directly contributes to shaping the employment landscape. Whether you are engaging in policy development, program implementation, or direct support services, your efforts will have a tangible impact on job seekers, employees and the economy by giving them a framework to build a future anchored and realised through employment.
It is our ambition to do things differently, to create the department of great jobs - where our people reflect our purpose.
The Role
Reporting to the Assistant Secretary, Finance Branch, the Director, Finance Business Partner is responsible for enabling DEWR to deliver against its business outcomes by providing high-quality, timely and strategic financial services and advice whilst ensuring DEWR meets its statutory financial management obligations.
The current vacancy would have specific responsibility for leading the team that provides Finance Business Partner services to our two IT divisions. This position also manages the financial governance framework for the department and will have the opportunity to continue to move this to a principle based, fit for purpose framework.
We are seeking a senior, strategic finance professional to lead the delivery of high-quality financial management, advice, and governance. This role requires robust leadership, enterprise-wide thinking, and the ability to influence decision-making at senior levels in a complex and dynamic environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of financial management, including budget allocations, reporting, and mid-year reviews.
Lead the development of annual budgets, forward estimates, and long-term financial strategies.
Oversee monthly management reporting and ensure robust assurance, governance, and control frameworks are in place.

Deliver high-quality financial analysis and strategic advice to senior executives.
Partner with business areas to shape financial strategy and support organisational objectives.
Contribute to divisional leadership, including business planning, performance management, and organisational priorities.
Lead and manage a team, fostering capability development, performance, and engagement.
Oversee the preparation and review of complex financial materials in accordance with legislation, policies, and frameworks.
